Align your PE licensure timeline strategically
Garver's Bridge Engineer roles often require or strongly prefer a Professional Engineer license. If you're on OPT, use your 12-month window to sit for the PE exam, since having it in hand significantly strengthens your H-1B petition as a specialty occupation.
Target Garver's regional infrastructure project pipeline
Garver concentrates bridge work across the South, Midwest, and Southwest, often tied to state DOT contracts. Targeting offices in those regions improves your chances, since active project funding means open headcount and a stronger business need for your role when USCIS reviews the petition.
Document your structural design software proficiency early
Compile a portfolio showing hands-on work in tools like LEAP Bridge, MIDAS Civil, or OpenBridge before your interviews. Consulting firms like Garver evaluate technical depth, and concrete deliverables from past projects make the specialty occupation argument cleaner for your H-1B filing.
Clarify which visa pathway fits your career stage
Garver sponsors H-1B, TN, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. If you're a Canadian or Mexican national, TN status can be faster than waiting for the H-1B lottery. Confirm which category your offer letter will support before signing, so there are no surprises at the DOL LCA stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Bridge Engineer roles
Garver posts Bridge Engineer positions across multiple locations simultaneously, which makes it easy to miss roles suited to your visa type. Use Migrate Mate to filter Garver's openings by sponsorship eligibility so you're only applying to positions where your status is already supported.
Confirm PERM timing before accepting a senior offer
If you're targeting an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card through Garver, ask HR when the PERM labor certification process typically begins relative to your start date. For engineering roles, delays in the DOL audit queue can push your priority date back significantly, so understanding the internal timeline matters before you accept.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Garver sponsor H-1B visas for Bridge Engineers?
Yes, Garver sponsors H-1B visas for Bridge Engineer roles. Bridge engineering qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS criteria given the degree requirements in civil or structural engineering. Garver has sponsored both initial H-1B petitions and renewals for engineering staff, and the role category is one they have supported consistently across multiple office locations.
How do I apply for Bridge Engineer jobs at Garver?
Applications go through Garver's careers portal, where positions are listed by office location and project discipline. Tailor your resume to highlight structural design experience, relevant software proficiency, and any state PE licensure. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Garver's current Bridge Engineer openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which makes it easier to identify roles that match your work authorization status.
Which visa types does Garver commonly use for Bridge Engineer positions?
Garver sponsors H-1B visas for most international Bridge Engineers, which requires lottery selection in April each year. F-1 OPT and CPT are supported for students and recent graduates. Canadian and Mexican nationals can pursue TN visa status, which avoids the lottery entirely. For longer-term employees, Garver also sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through the PERM labor certification process at the DOL.
What qualifications does Garver expect for Bridge Engineer roles?
Garver typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited program. Hands-on experience with bridge design, load rating, or inspection is expected for most roles. Proficiency in structural analysis software is assessed during interviews. A Professional Engineer license is often preferred or required at the mid-to-senior level, and having it in hand strengthens both your candidacy and your H-1B specialty occupation classification.
How do I plan my timeline if Garver sponsors my H-1B?
H-1B registration opens in March each year, with an October 1 start date for selected petitions. If you're on OPT when you receive an offer from Garver, cap-gap protection covers the gap between your OPT expiration and October 1 as long as your I-20 is extended before OPT ends. Garver will file through USCIS once selected, and premium processing is available if you need a faster adjudication decision. Plan to have your degree documents, employment verification, and transcripts ready before the registration window opens.
