Align Your Degree to Specialty Occupation Standards
WSP files H-1B petitions under the specialty occupation standard, which requires a directly related bachelor's degree or higher. A civil or structural engineering degree maps cleanly, but make sure your transcripts and credential evaluations reflect that alignment before applying.
Target WSP Offices Near Major Infrastructure Projects
WSP staffs Structural Project Engineers around active transportation, bridge, and building programs. Research which regional offices are hiring for project-heavy work, since those teams are more likely to have open headcount and a history of sponsoring engineers mid-project ramp-up.
Raise Sponsorship Directly in Recruiter Conversations
WSP recruits across H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT pathways. Ask the recruiter specifically which visa types the hiring team has processed for this role before, so you can clarify your own situation and avoid late-stage surprises during offer negotiation.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Open Structural Roles
Filter for Structural Project Engineer positions at WSP that explicitly include visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate aggregates verified sponsoring employers, so you can skip the guesswork and focus your applications on roles where your immigration situation won't disqualify you.
Prepare Your PE Licensure Timeline Before Offer Stage
WSP often expects Structural Project Engineers to be working toward Professional Engineer licensure. If you're on OPT or early H-1B status, document your FE exam status and state board eligibility upfront, since some project roles require PE sponsorship within a defined timeframe.
Understand How PERM Fits Into Long-Term Planning
WSP sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for engineers in stable project roles. PERM requires DOL to certify that no qualified U.S. worker was available, so consistent performance and a well-documented role description from your manager directly supports a stronger PERM filing down the line.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WSP sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers?
Yes, WSP sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineer positions. Structural engineering meets the specialty occupation definition under USCIS standards, since the role typically requires at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. WSP has processed H-1B petitions across multiple U.S. offices, and the role type appears consistently in their sponsorship history.
Which visa types does WSP commonly use for Structural Project Engineer roles?
WSP sponsors Structural Project Engineers through several pathways, including H-1B, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA, and F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates. For longer-term immigration, WSP also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for engineers who establish themselves in stable project roles.
How do I apply for Structural Project Engineer jobs at WSP?
You can browse and apply for Structural Project Engineer positions at WSP directly through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles at verified sponsoring employers and filters by visa type. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight structural analysis software experience, project delivery work, and any PE licensure progress, since WSP hiring managers prioritize candidates who are already progressing through licensure.
What qualifications does WSP expect for Structural Project Engineer candidates needing sponsorship?
WSP generally expects a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited program. Proficiency with structural analysis tools such as ETABS, SAP2000, or RISA is commonly required. Candidates seeking sponsorship should also be prepared to show progress toward Professional Engineer licensure, since many project roles at WSP carry PE expectations within a few years of hire.
How do I think about the timing of H-1B sponsorship if I'm on F-1 OPT at WSP?
If WSP hires you on F-1 OPT, the H-1B cap lottery opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. STEM OPT extensions give structural engineers up to 36 months of additional work authorization, which covers multiple lottery cycles. Work with WSP's immigration team early in your OPT period to register for the lottery and understand your specific USCIS filing deadlines.
