Align your credentials with PE licensure expectations
Westwood regularly staffs licensed engineers on client-facing projects. If you're on OPT or H-1B, document your EIT status and progress toward PE licensure clearly, it signals long-term value and reduces perceived sponsorship risk for a consulting firm.
Target Westwood's infrastructure and land development practices
Westwood's structural work sits inside broader civil and land development service lines. Applying to roles tied to site development or municipal infrastructure projects increases your chances, since those practice areas carry consistent hiring volume for structural engineers.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Westwood's open structural roles
Westwood posts Structural Project Engineer positions across multiple markets. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Westwood openings that flag visa sponsorship, so you're not manually screening job boards or missing openings in smaller regional offices.
Address specialty occupation documentation before your interview
Consulting firm H-1B petitions face USCIS scrutiny on specialty occupation when the role spans multiple project types. Before your offer stage, confirm your civil or structural engineering degree maps directly to the posted job description to avoid RFE exposure.
Clarify your work authorization timeline during the offer conversation
If you're on F-1 OPT, tell the recruiter your STEM extension eligibility upfront. Westwood can plan LCA filing and H-1B cap timing more accurately when they know your exact authorization end date rather than discovering it late in onboarding.
Track DOL prevailing wage levels for your target metro
Westwood operates across multiple states. Before negotiating your offer, check DOL's Foreign Labor Certification Data Center for prevailing wage Level II or III rates in your specific office location, since LCA-certified wages are locked and cannot be renegotiated after filing.

Confirm sponsorship availability with the recruiter early, since individual office hiring budgets can affect timing.
Which visa types does Westwood Professional Services commonly use for Structural Project Engineer roles?
Westwood sponsors H-1B visas as the primary long-term work authorization path for Structural Project Engineers. The company also works with F-1 OPT and CPT candidates, TN visa holders from Canada and Mexico with qualifying engineering credentials, J-1 visa trainees in some cases, and supports EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for engineers transitioning to permanent residency.

Browse open Structural Project Engineer positions at Westwood on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles with visa sponsorship so you can confirm eligibility before applying. When you apply, tailor your resume to highlight project delivery experience in structural or civil engineering and note your current work authorization status clearly to help Westwood's recruiting team plan accordingly.

Westwood typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited program, along with project experience in structural analysis, design, or construction administration. EIT certification is commonly expected, and active PE licensure or demonstrated progress toward it is a strong differentiator for mid-level and senior roles at a consulting firm like Westwood.
How do I understand the H-1B sponsorship timeline if I receive an offer from Westwood?
If Westwood extends an offer and you need H-1B sponsorship, the process starts with a certified Labor Condition Application filed with the DOL, which takes roughly seven business days. USCIS H-1B cap registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT with a STEM extension, you may be able to begin before the cap lottery resolves, giving you and Westwood more flexibility.
