Align your credentials with U.S. licensure expectations
Westwood operates in a licensed engineering environment, so having your foreign degree evaluated by a NACES-approved credential evaluation service before applying signals you're ready to pursue PE licensure, which matters to consulting firms.
Target roles tied to active infrastructure projects
Westwood staffs Structural Engineers across land development and civil infrastructure work. Applying to offices in states with high construction activity increases your odds of landing a role with both sponsorship budget and genuine urgency to hire.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Westwood openings by visa type
Westwood posts Structural Engineer roles across multiple locations, and not every opening will be flagged as sponsorship-eligible. Search Migrate Mate to surface only the positions where H-1B or TN sponsorship is confirmed, so you're not wasting applications.
Clarify TN eligibility before your first interview
If you're a Canadian or Mexican citizen, a TN visa for engineers can be obtained at the border without USCIS filing, cutting months off your start date. Confirm the role falls under the engineering TN category and bring your offer letter and degree documentation.
Ask about PERM timing during the offer stage
Consulting firms like Westwood sometimes initiate PERM-based Green Card sponsorship for engineers they plan to retain long term. Asking whether the company has a defined policy for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship during offer negotiation helps you understand the full immigration runway.
Submit your H-1B petition paperwork well before the April deadline
H-1B registration opens in March each year. If you're on F-1 OPT, coordinate with Westwood's HR team early so they can work with immigration counsel to register you before the USCIS cap-subject window closes.

The company operates in consulting and infrastructure sectors where engineering talent is consistently in demand, and it has worked with immigration counsel to support foreign national hires. Which visa types does Westwood Professional Services commonly use for Structural Engineers?
Westwood has sponsored H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for engineering roles. What qualifications and experience does Westwood look for in Structural Engineer candidates?
Westwood typically looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in civil or structural engineering, proficiency in structural analysis software such as RISA, SAP2000, or RAM, and experience with applicable building codes including IBC and AISC standards. Progress toward PE licensure is viewed favorably for client-facing roles.
How do I handle the H-1B cap timeline if I receive an offer from Westwood?
The H-1B cap registration window opens in March each year, with USCIS conducting a lottery if registrations exceed the annual limit. If selected, petitions can be filed starting April 1, with an October 1 employment start date. If you're on F-1 OPT, you may be eligible for a 24-month STEM OPT extension that bridges the gap while your H-1B petition is pending. Coordinate with Westwood's HR team as early as possible to align timelines.
