Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Designer/Drafter – Engineering Technician to join our Renewables Division. Westwood is a multidisciplinary, national engineering firm with a highly experienced and dynamic team dedicated to delivering high-level professional services to our clients.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, the Designer/Drafter – Engineering Technician will support renewable energy projects by preparing design drawings, plan sets, exhibits, and technical documents. This position will work closely with engineers, designers, and project teams to develop high-quality deliverables for projects related to wind, solar, battery energy storage, and other renewable energy infrastructure.
- Utilize computer-aided drafting and design software, along with other computer applications, to assist in the preparation of construction details, design plans, technical reports, and project exhibits.
- Transfer information in numerical, written, sketched, and electronic formats from engineering markups and digital files into final drawings and plan sets.
- Develop and revise drawings to support renewable energy site design, utility coordination, grading, drainage, access roads, and related civil components.
- Visualize and illustrate concepts and designs in two- and three-dimensional formats.
- Assist project teams with organizing and maintaining drawing files, sheet sets, and project documentation.
- Support the preparation of construction quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
- Perform tasks under close supervision and in accordance with established procedures and project standards.
- Coordinate with engineers and other technical staff to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of project deliverables.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or other relevant drafting and civil design software applications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other commonly used business and technical software.
- Basic knowledge of computer file management, directory structures, and document organization.
- Familiarity with civil construction plans, standard details, and related engineering documents.
- Fundamental understanding of basic civil engineering principles and design procedures, including grading, drainage, stormwater management, earthwork, access road layout, and utility systems.
- Ability to assist in the preparation of construction quantities and cost estimates.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established drafting standards and procedures.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

- Associate degree or 2-year technical degree in drafting, design technology, engineering technology, or a related field; or
- 2–5 years of experience as a CAD Technician, Designer/Drafter, or equivalent role.
- High school diploma or GED required.
