Align your credentials with PE licensure expectations
STV's engineering projects often require or prefer Professional Engineer licensure. Before applying, research whether your foreign engineering credentials can be evaluated for equivalency through NCEES, as this directly strengthens your specialty occupation case for H-1B sponsorship.
Target project-based roles with defined technical scopes
Consulting firms like STV file LCAs tied to specific work locations and projects. Focus your applications on roles with clear technical scopes like structural, civil, or transportation engineering, since these map cleanly to specialty occupation definitions USCIS expects.
Search STV's open engineering roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter STV's engineering positions by visa type, so you're only spending time on roles where sponsorship is actively available rather than sorting through postings that don't address work authorization.
Raise sponsorship early in recruiter conversations
Consulting firms managing client-billable headcount have tighter margin tolerance for delayed starts. Ask directly during your first recruiter call whether the role is open to H-1B or OPT candidates, so both sides avoid wasted time late in the process.
Understand how STV's project locations affect your LCA
STV operates across multiple states on long-term infrastructure contracts. If your role requires traveling to client sites outside your primary work location, your employer must file an amended LCA with DOL to cover those sites, which affects your timeline.
Prepare for PERM timing if targeting permanent residency
Infrastructure consulting roles at STV can support EB-2 or EB-3 PERM sponsorship, but the PERM recruitment process typically runs six to twelve months before a petition is filed. Starting these conversations at offer stage, not years later, gives you meaningful lead time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does STV sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, STV sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. Their infrastructure and transportation projects typically involve positions that meet USCIS specialty occupation requirements, which is the foundation of a valid H-1B petition. If you're in the H-1B cap lottery or seeking a transfer from a current employer, STV's established sponsorship process covers both cap-subject and cap-exempt scenarios depending on your situation.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at STV?
You can find STV's open engineering positions directly on their careers site or through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can identify which postings are accessible to candidates needing work authorization. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific engineering discipline listed, reference any relevant project experience in infrastructure or transportation consulting, and be prepared to discuss your work authorization status early in the screening process.
Which visa types does STV commonly sponsor for Engineering roles?
STV sponsors several visa categories for engineering professionals, including H-1B for specialty occupation workers, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles, and F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates. They also support EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways for longer-term employment, and J-1 visa for certain exchange visitor arrangements. The right category depends on your nationality, degree, and career stage.
What qualifications and experience does STV expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
STV's engineering roles across infrastructure, transportation, and environmental consulting typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline. Many positions favor candidates with two or more years of project-based consulting experience. For roles supporting licensed design work, having or being eligible for a Professional Engineer license significantly strengthens your candidacy and the specialty occupation basis for visa sponsorship.
How do I plan my timeline when pursuing an H-1B through STV?
If you need a new H-1B, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date, so you'll need an offer in place before March to enter the lottery. If you're already on H-1B status with another employer, STV can file a transfer petition and you can start upon filing. OPT candidates should account for the time needed to complete onboarding and LCA certification before their OPT expiration date.
