Align your credentials with PE licensure expectations
Kleinfelder's consulting work often requires or rewards Professional Engineer licensure. Before applying, confirm whether your degree and experience meet NCEES requirements, since PE credentials strengthen your H-1B specialty occupation case and signal readiness to U.S. project clients.
Target Kleinfelder's environmental and geotechnical practices
Kleinfelder consistently hires in environmental assessment, geotechnical engineering, and infrastructure consulting. Framing your resume around site investigation, remediation, or subsurface analysis gives you a stronger angle than generic civil or structural positioning when targeting their open roles.
Secure your offer before the H-1B registration window
H-1B registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. If you're finishing OPT, structure your timeline so an offer is in place by February, giving Kleinfelder's HR team enough lead time to register you before USCIS closes the window.
Clarify LCA wage levels during salary negotiation
DOL requires your employer to file a Labor Condition Application certifying your wage meets the prevailing level for your role and location. Ask Kleinfelder's recruiter which wage level they intend to certify at, since Level I and Level II LCAs can affect both your offer and future PERM eligibility.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Kleinfelder engineering openings by visa type
Not all of Kleinfelder's engineering postings are open to sponsored candidates. Use Migrate Mate to filter their active roles by visa type so you're applying only to positions where sponsorship is confirmed, saving time and avoiding offers that stall at HR.
Request a PERM timeline conversation before accepting an offer
If your long-term goal is a Green Card via EB-2 or EB-3, ask Kleinfelder directly whether they initiate PERM after a defined tenure. Consulting firms vary widely on this, and understanding their policy before you sign avoids a situation where sponsorship stalls after two or three years.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Kleinfelder sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Kleinfelder sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying engineering roles. Their consulting work across environmental, geotechnical, and infrastructure disciplines regularly falls under USCIS specialty occupation criteria, which requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field. Sponsorship availability can vary by role and location, so confirming with the recruiter early in the process is the right move.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Kleinfelder?
You can apply through Kleinfelder's careers page or find their visa-sponsoring engineering roles filtered by type on Migrate Mate. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect the specific engineering discipline the role requires, whether that's geotechnical, environmental, or structural. Mentioning your current visa status and authorization timeline upfront helps recruiters assess fit without delays later.
Which visa types does Kleinfelder commonly use for Engineering roles?
Kleinfelder sponsors H-1B visas for engineers already in the U.S. and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students transitioning from academic programs. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying USMCA occupations. For permanent residency, Kleinfelder has used EB-2 and EB-3 pathways through the PERM labor certification process for engineers in longer-tenure positions.
What qualifications does Kleinfelder expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
Most sponsored engineering roles at Kleinfelder require a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline, and many roles expect two to five years of consulting or project-based experience. Roles tied to infrastructure, site assessment, or remediation often value familiarity with regulatory frameworks like NEPA or state environmental standards. PE licensure or EIT certification strengthens your candidacy, particularly for mid-level and senior positions.
How do I plan my timeline if I'm on OPT and targeting a Kleinfelder offer?
If you're on F-1 OPT, you have a 60-day grace period after your program or employment ends, but H-1B cap-subject petitions can only take effect on October 1. USCIS registration opens in March, so you need an offer in place before that window. STEM OPT extensions give you up to 24 additional months of work authorization, which provides more runway to secure an offer and complete the H-1B registration cycle without a gap.
