Align your degree field to the role
Civil Project Engineer roles at Osborn require a degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline. USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims, so confirm your transcript reflects the specific field the position requires before applying.
Research Osborn's active project portfolio
Osborn works across transportation, structural, and infrastructure consulting. Targeting your application toward their active project types, such as bridge rehabilitation or roadway design, signals fit and helps hiring managers justify sponsorship to leadership.
Start OPT paperwork before your offer arrives
Your DSO needs time to issue an updated I-20 for OPT authorization. USCIS recommends filing up to 90 days before your program end date. Waiting until you receive an offer from Osborn leaves almost no buffer for processing delays.
Clarify TN eligibility for your specific role
TN status covers engineers, but the job duties in your offer letter must align with DOL's definition of engineering practice. Ask Osborn's HR team to confirm the offer letter language supports a TN classification before you travel to a port of entry.
Ask about H-1B filing timelines during interviews
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for an October 1 start. If you're interviewing at Osborn outside that window, confirm whether they'll file in the next cycle and whether they use premium processing to reduce uncertainty in your start timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Civil Project Engineer roles
Osborn posts Civil Project Engineer openings across multiple locations and practice areas. Use Migrate Mate to filter for roles at Osborn that align with your visa type, so you target positions where sponsorship is already established for this function.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Osborn Engineering sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers?
Yes, Osborn Engineering has a track record of H-1B sponsorship for Civil Project Engineers. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards given the degree requirements in civil engineering. H-1B registration opens each March through USCIS, and sponsorship is subject to the annual lottery. Confirming the timeline with Osborn's HR team early in the process helps you plan around the cap cycle.
How do I apply for Civil Project Engineer jobs at Osborn Engineering?
You can browse and apply for Civil Project Engineer openings at Osborn Engineering directly through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where sponsorship has been established for this function. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect Osborn's core practice areas, such as transportation, structural, or infrastructure engineering, and confirm your visa status upfront so the hiring team can evaluate sponsorship logistics from the first conversation.
Which visa types does Osborn Engineering commonly use for Civil Project Engineers?
Osborn Engineering has supported Civil Project Engineers through H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visa categories. For recent graduates, OPT or CPT is typically the first step before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship. Canadian and Mexican nationals in civil engineering may qualify for TN status, which does not require a lottery and can be renewed indefinitely in one-year increments.
What qualifications does Osborn Engineering expect for Civil Project Engineers?
Osborn Engineering generally expects a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline for project engineer roles. Practical experience with design software, familiarity with local or federal infrastructure standards, and progress toward a Professional Engineer license are commonly valued. Entry-level candidates coming through OPT or CPT pathways should be prepared to demonstrate technical coursework that maps directly to the role's design and project delivery responsibilities.
How do I time my application if I need H-1B sponsorship to start at Osborn Engineering?
H-1B petitions filed under the annual cap have an October 1 start date, with USCIS registration opening each March. If you're interviewing at Osborn in the fall or winter, factor in that a cap-subject H-1B won't allow you to begin until the following October at the earliest. Starting conversations with Osborn's HR team several months before the March registration window gives both sides time to confirm sponsorship intent and prepare filing documents.
