Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Program Development Manager roles at Michael Baker International typically require a degree in engineering, urban planning, or a closely related field. Make sure your transcripts and credential evaluations reflect a direct tie to the role's technical scope before applying.
Research active project portfolios before outreach
Michael Baker International wins contracts across transportation, water, and federal infrastructure sectors. Targeting your application toward divisions with active funded programs puts you in front of hiring managers who have immediate headcount needs and sponsorship budget.
Clarify the LCA prevailing wage tier during negotiation
The Department of Labor's prevailing wage determination affects your H-1B offer directly. When you receive an offer, ask which wage level the Labor Condition Application is filed under so your compensation aligns with DOL requirements and avoids delays at USCIS.
Plan around the H-1B cap registration window
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date. Build your offer timeline backward from that window so your employer can register you without needing a bridge arrangement or delayed start.
Flag your OPT or TN status clearly in your application
Consulting firms like Michael Baker International often have compliance teams that screen work authorization early. Stating your current status and authorized period upfront prevents your application from stalling on the sponsorship question before a recruiter even reviews your experience.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by sponsorship history
Program Development Manager openings at Michael Baker International are posted across multiple channels, but not all flag sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified sponsorship-eligible postings at the company so you apply where your visa status is already accounted for.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Michael Baker International sponsor H-1B visas for Program Development Managers?
Yes, Michael Baker International has an active track record of H-1B visa sponsorship for professional and technical roles, including Program Development Managers. Given the specialty occupation requirements tied to engineering and planning credentials, these roles typically meet USCIS's standard for H-1B eligibility. Your best approach is to confirm sponsorship availability with the recruiter early in the process, before the offer stage.
How do I apply for Program Development Manager jobs at Michael Baker International?
Applications go through Michael Baker International's careers portal, where you can filter by role type and location. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Program Development Manager openings at the company that are verified for visa sponsorship eligibility. Before applying, tailor your resume to highlight program management experience in infrastructure, transportation, or federal consulting, which aligns with Michael Baker's core practice areas.
Which visa types does Michael Baker International commonly use for Program Development Manager roles?
The most common pathways are H-1B for specialty occupation workers and TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering or planning categories. For candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or CPT, the company can support those work authorization periods while pursuing longer-term sponsorship. Candidates on a longer-term trajectory may also be supported through EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa petitions after establishing tenure.
What qualifications are expected for Program Development Manager roles at Michael Baker International?
Most openings require a bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering, transportation planning, urban planning, or a related technical field. Beyond the degree, Michael Baker typically looks for experience managing multidisciplinary project teams, client relationships, and proposal or contract development in a consulting environment. For H-1B purposes, the degree field must directly correlate to the role's technical responsibilities, so generalist business degrees alone rarely satisfy the specialty occupation standard.
How do I time my application if I need sponsorship before my current status expires?
If you're on F-1 OPT, you have a defined end date, so target roles at least three to four months before expiration to leave room for offer, LCA filing with DOL, and USCIS petition processing. For cap-subject H-1B cases, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start, so work backward from that window. Premium processing is available to expedite USCIS review to roughly 15 business days if your timeline is tight.
