Tailor your resume to infrastructure project types
Michael Baker International focuses heavily on transportation, bridge, and federal infrastructure projects. Highlight experience managing civil construction schedules, subcontractor oversight, and owner-agency coordination. Generic construction resumes get filtered out before sponsorship even enters the conversation.
Confirm your credentials match the role tier
Construction Manager roles here often require a PE license or a CMAA certification alongside your degree. Before applying, verify whether your foreign credentials have been evaluated by a NACES-approved organization, since DOL prevailing wage determinations and H-1B specialty occupation arguments both depend on it.
Target project offices, not just the corporate career portal
Michael Baker International staffs many Construction Manager roles through regional and project-specific hiring managers, not exclusively through central HR. Connecting with project leads on active federal or state transportation contracts increases your visibility before a requisition even posts publicly.
Understand how LCA filing affects your start date
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL and receive certification before submitting your H-1B petition to USCIS. That sequence typically adds several weeks to the pre-filing timeline, so factor it in when negotiating your projected start date with the hiring team.
Ask directly about OPT and CPT bridge timelines
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT, confirm whether the team is prepared to file your H-1B cap petition in the March registration window. A missed window means waiting another year, so align your offer letter and employment start date with that deadline before signing anything.
Browse open Construction Manager roles on Migrate Mate
Finding employers with a real sponsorship track record in construction consulting saves significant time. Use Migrate Mate to filter Construction Manager openings at companies like Michael Baker International that have documented sponsorship history across H-1B, TN, and Green Card pathways.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Michael Baker International sponsor H-1B visas for Construction Managers?
Yes, Michael Baker International sponsors H-1B visas for Construction Manager roles. The company operates across federally funded infrastructure and transportation projects where specialized construction oversight qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS criteria. You'll need a relevant bachelor's degree or higher, and your role must align with the H-1B specialty occupation definition, which typically means a degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a closely related field.
Which visa types are commonly used for Construction Manager roles at Michael Baker International?
H-1B is the most common visa pathway, but Michael Baker International also sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering and management categories, and immigrant visa pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term employees. J-1 visa sponsorship has also been used for certain exchange-based arrangements. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and career stage.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Construction Manager roles at Michael Baker International?
Most Construction Manager openings require a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related discipline, combined with several years of field experience managing large-scale infrastructure or transportation projects. Familiarity with federal project delivery methods, contract administration, and agency coordination is consistently prioritized. A Professional Engineer license or CMAA certification strengthens your profile significantly, especially for senior-level roles where DOL prevailing wage tiers are higher.
How do I apply for Construction Manager jobs at Michael Baker International?
You can apply through Michael Baker International's careers portal or find open roles filtered by sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate. When applying, make your visa status clear upfront and highlight project types that align with the company's infrastructure and transportation portfolio. Follow up with regional offices if the role is tied to a specific active contract, since project-based hires move on tighter timelines than corporate backfill positions.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take for a Construction Manager position?
The full timeline from offer acceptance to authorized work start depends on several steps. Your employer first files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, which typically takes one to three weeks. USCIS then processes the H-1B petition, with standard processing taking three to six months and premium processing compressing that to roughly 15 business days. If you're subject to the annual H-1B cap, the next available start date is October 1 of the following fiscal year.
