Align your credentials to Kiewit's project types
Kiewit's energy division handles power generation, transmission, and industrial construction. Highlighting hands-on site management experience on large-scale energy or heavy civil projects puts your resume in the right frame before a recruiter even opens it.
Pursue licensure before your interview stage
Kiewit favors Construction Managers who hold or are pursuing a Professional Engineer license or CCM certification. Getting one of these in progress signals long-term commitment to the field and removes a common sticking point during the offer conversation.
Target Kiewit's district offices near active energy builds
Kiewit staffs Construction Managers regionally, close to active project sites. Applying to district offices in areas with ongoing energy infrastructure work increases your chances of being matched to a live opening rather than a future pipeline role.
Understand how TN status fits construction management
If you're a Canadian or Mexican national, the TN visa covers engineers but not a generic "construction manager" title. Confirm your offer letter uses an engineering-specific job title that maps to DOL's TN occupational categories before accepting.
Time your H-1B filing around Kiewit's project cycles
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for an October 1 start. Kiewit's construction ramp-ups often follow project award timelines, so engaging their HR team in the fall or winter gives you the best chance of being included in their spring registration.
Use Migrate Mate to find Kiewit Construction Manager openings
Kiewit posts Construction Manager roles across multiple district locations, and not all are easy to track. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Kiewit roles that offer visa sponsorship so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas for Construction Managers?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas for Construction Manager roles. As a large federal contractor and infrastructure firm, Kiewit has an established process for H-1B filings and works with immigration counsel on petitions. Sponsorship availability depends on the specific role, project location, and timing relative to the USCIS annual H-1B registration window in March.
How do I apply for Construction Manager jobs at Kiewit?
You can apply directly through Kiewit's careers portal or find sponsorship-confirmed openings through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where visa sponsorship is offered. Kiewit hires Construction Managers at the district level, so searching by region or project type will surface the most relevant openings. Tailoring your application to the specific energy or industrial sector Kiewit is hiring for in that district improves your chances.
Which visa types does Kiewit commonly use for Construction Manager roles?
Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for Construction Managers, along with F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates transitioning into full-time roles. Canadian and Mexican nationals may be eligible for TN visa status if the role title maps to a qualifying engineering occupation under DOL guidelines. For longer-term pathways, Kiewit also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for qualifying employees.
What qualifications does Kiewit expect for a sponsored Construction Manager role?
Kiewit typically looks for a bachelor's degree in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering, or construction management. Hands-on field experience managing subcontractors and self-perform crews on energy, power, or heavy industrial projects is weighted heavily. Licensure such as a PE or CCM certification strengthens your profile. For visa sponsorship, your degree field needs to directly support the specialty occupation criteria USCIS applies to H-1B petitions.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when hired by Kiewit as a Construction Manager?
For H-1B sponsorship, Kiewit must register you in the USCIS lottery in March, with employment starting no earlier than October 1 if selected. The full process from registration to approved status takes roughly six to eight months. For F-1 OPT extensions or TN status, timelines are shorter. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, if offered, typically runs one to three years depending on your country of birth and priority date.
