Target engineering and project-focused roles
Kiewit's sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical disciplines tied to energy infrastructure. Focus your search on engineering, construction management, and project controls roles, these are where international candidates have the strongest case for sponsorship approval.
Understand Kiewit's dual-track sponsorship approach
Kiewit sponsors both temporary visas like H-1B and TN as well as permanent residency through Green Card pathways. If long-term U.S. residency is your goal, ask recruiters early about their typical Green Card timeline for your role level.
Leverage your F-1 OPT or CPT status strategically
Kiewit actively hires F-1 students through OPT and CPT programs. If you're on OPT, securing a role before your authorization expires gives Kiewit time to evaluate you before committing to H-1B sponsorship, a common path into the company.
Canadian and Mexican professionals should highlight TN eligibility
Kiewit sponsors TN visas, which are faster and simpler than H-1B. If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and work in an eligible engineering discipline, leading with TN eligibility removes a major sponsorship hurdle for the hiring team.
Research open roles with verified sponsorship history before applying
Not every job posting at Kiewit will explicitly mention visa sponsorship. Browse Migrate Mate to filter for Kiewit roles with confirmed sponsorship history, so you're targeting positions where international candidates have a real path forward.
Align your application with Kiewit's energy sector project pipeline
Kiewit's hiring often tracks major energy infrastructure projects. Research their active projects in power, oil and gas, and renewables, then tailor your resume to reflect experience in those sub-sectors, it signals direct value to the teams most likely to sponsor.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas and has a consistent record of doing so. Sponsorship is most common for engineering and technical roles in the energy and construction sectors. If you're applying from outside the U.S. or transitioning from OPT, it's worth confirming sponsorship availability with the recruiter early in the process.
Which visa types does Kiewit sponsor?
Kiewit sponsors a range of visa types including H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for temporary work authorization. On the permanent residency side, Kiewit also pursues EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for qualifying employees. The mix reflects a company that supports international talent at multiple career stages.
Which departments or roles at Kiewit are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Visa sponsorship at Kiewit is concentrated in technical and engineering functions, civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering roles tied to energy and infrastructure projects are the most common. Project controls, estimating, and construction management positions have also historically attracted sponsored candidates. Corporate and administrative roles are less likely to involve sponsorship.
How do I find visa-sponsored job openings at Kiewit?
Kiewit posts openings across multiple channels, but not all listings specify sponsorship availability. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors and lets you filter by company and visa type, so you can identify Kiewit roles where international candidates have a confirmed path. This saves time compared to screening generic job listings manually.
How do I approach the application timeline when targeting Kiewit for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship requires USCIS filing by April 1 for an October 1 start date, so timing matters. Aim to have an offer in hand by February or March at the latest. If you're on OPT, starting the interview process six to nine months before your authorization expires gives Kiewit enough runway to commit to sponsorship without pressure.
