ROLE DESCRIPTION
As the SIE for Packaging, you will own the end-to-end industrialization of packaging solutions for our Made-to-Spec (MTS) components. These are custom-designed, high-value parts that require bespoke protection and handling strategies. You will serve as the critical technical link between our internal Product Design teams and our external fabrication partners. You are the voice of the design team to the supply base, ensuring that every supplier knows exactly what to source, how to build, and how to validate the packaging that protects our core technology. Relocation assistance is available.
- Requirements Translation: Partner with Design Engineering to extract critical-to-quality (CTQ) requirements for MTS parts (tolerances, surface finishes, fragility) and translate them into comprehensive packaging specifications.
- Full-Cycle Design: Manage or perform the actual design work for custom dunnage, shipping racks, and specialized containers using SolidWorks, ensuring compatibility with both domestic and international logistics.
- Supplier Technical Management: Act as the "Design Authority" when interfacing with packaging design or component suppliers. Communicate technical specs clearly so they can execute sourcing and fabrication without ambiguity.
- Industrialization & APQP: Drive the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for packaging assets. Ensure suppliers have the right processes in place to meet our capacity, quality, and durability standards.
- DFM & DFA Integration: Ensure all packaging designs support "Design for Manufacturing" and "Design for Assembly" at Form Factory, focusing on how packaging interfaces with automated lines.
- Validation: Define and oversee testing protocols (e.g., ISTA, ASTM) to prove that custom MTS packaging survives the rigors of the global supply chain.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent) with a track record of exceptional technical ability.
- Expert proficiency in SolidWorks, or other CAD modeling software, and a deep understanding of technical drawings, including complex datum structures and GD&T.
- Strong knowledge of diverse materials, including aluminum, steel, composites, and foam, and how they behave in transit.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate risk effectively across cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Familiarity with automated warehousing, high-volume manufacturing, and industry-standard testing (ASTM/Mil-Spec).
WHERE YOU'LL WORK
This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV—an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
COMPENSATION
Humanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy’s culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that. Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, and a holistic benefits package to ensure all employees have what they need to thrive while working here.
When it comes to you and your family’s health, we cover 100% of medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees - and 80% of healthcare premiums for dependents. This starts from day one. We also offer at least 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents (up to 20 weeks for birthing parents), and generous vacation policies to give employees time to recharge when needed.
To build America’s energy future, we need everyone at the table. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply to our open jobs.
If you may require reasonable accommodations to participate in our interview process, please contact accommodations@formenergy.com. Requests for accommodations will be treated with discretion.

Align your credentials to grid storage
Form Energy's core work centers on iron-air battery systems and multi-day energy storage. Credential documents that highlight electrochemical engineering, power systems, or grid-scale storage projects will map directly to what their hiring teams are evaluating.
Target roles tied to LCA-filed positions
DOL Labor Condition Applications are public record. Search OFLC disclosure data for Form Energy filings to identify which Energy job titles have active LCA certifications, giving you a concrete list of roles where sponsorship infrastructure is already in place.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Energy roles by visa type
Sorting job listings by sponsored visa category saves hours of manual research. Migrate Mate lets you filter Form Energy's open Energy positions by the specific visa types they support, so you only apply to roles where your immigration situation is already accounted for.
Prepare for specialty occupation documentation
USCIS requires that H-1B petitions demonstrate the role is a specialty occupation tied to a specific degree field. For Energy positions, this means gathering transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if your credential is foreign, and job description language that specifies required technical disciplines.
Build timeline around H-1B cap and October start
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. If you're interviewing with Form Energy in late fall or winter, work backward with your recruiter to confirm whether they'll support a cap-season filing or pursue a cap-exempt or TN alternative.

Does Form Energy sponsor H-1B visas for Energys?
Yes, Form Energy sponsors H-1B visas for Energy roles. The company has an established sponsorship track record across multiple visa categories. If you're on OPT and targeting a full-time Energy position, the typical path involves your employer filing an H-1B petition during the April cap season for an October 1 start date, assuming you're subject to the annual cap.
How do I apply for Energy jobs at Form Energy?
Start by identifying active Energy openings at Form Energy that align with your visa eligibility. Migrate Mate lets you browse Form Energy's open roles filtered by visa sponsorship type, so you can focus on positions where your work authorization situation is already a fit before you apply. Tailor your application materials to energy storage, grid systems, or the specific technical domain of the role.
Which visa types does Form Energy commonly use for Energy roles?
Form Energy sponsors H-1B, EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Energy positions. H-1B is the most common path for full-time technical hires. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering categories. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for candidates still completing STEM graduate programs.
What qualifications does Form Energy expect for Energy roles?
Form Energy's Energy roles typically require backgrounds in electrical engineering, energy systems, electrochemical engineering, or power electronics, depending on the specific function. Hands-on experience with battery storage systems, grid integration, or energy dispatch modeling is valued. For senior roles, a master's degree or significant industry experience in grid-scale or utility-scale storage projects is often expected.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship at Form Energy?
If you're pursuing an H-1B through Form Energy, USCIS opens the registration window in late March for an April lottery. A petition filed in April can result in a work start date no earlier than October 1. If you're currently on OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date and whether you qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension to bridge any gap before H-1B status begins.
