ROLE DESCRIPTION
Form Energy is hiring an NPI Project Engineer to own the introduction and implementation of mechanical product and process changes into our Weirton, WV manufacturing facility. This role sits within Operations Engineering and works in close partnership with our Technical Program Manager to ensure that every change — from next-generation pack-level design updates to equipment and process iterations — lands in production in a controlled, quality-safe, and schedule-conscious way. You will help build the systems, workflows, and standards that define how Form Energy scales new products into manufacturing. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape a critical function at a company developing breakthrough technology for long-duration energy storage. Relocation assistance is available.
What you'll do:
- Own the end-to-end introduction of mechanical product and process changes into the manufacturing line, with initial focus on battery pack systems
- Map all incoming engineering changes against production line state, identifying risks to quality, throughput, and schedule before cutover
- Lead production trials for new or modified designs — defining trial plans, success criteria, timing, and documenting outcomes
- Drive structured cutover planning, coordinating timing across engineering, supply chain, warehouse, and production to ensure clean transitions with no unplanned disruption
- Translate engineering changes into manufacturing execution language — work orders, Oracle transactions, line flow impacts, and BOM/routing updates
- Partner closely with the TPM to maintain change visibility, milestone tracking, and cross-functional alignment across all active NPI efforts
- Serve as the operations voice in design reviews and change control processes, pushing back on changes that lack manufacturing readiness
- Help develop NPI systems and standards — change intake, readiness criteria, trial governance, and cutover checklists — as this function matures
What you'll bring:
- 6–10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, NPI, or engineering change management in a high-complexity production environment (automotive, aerospace, energy, or similar)
- Demonstrated experience managing product or process changes into a live manufacturing line, including trial execution, change control, and cutover coordination
- Hands-on familiarity with ERP systems (Oracle preferred) including work order flow, BOM management, and routing
- Strong mechanical systems intuition — ability to read engineering drawings, understand pack/module assembly processes, and assess change impact on production
- Proven ability to work independently in ambiguous environments and build structure where little exists
- Excellent cross-functional communication — comfortable engaging engineering, supply chain, warehouse, and production teams simultaneously
WHERE YOU'LL WORK:
This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV—an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
Humanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy’s culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that. Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, and a holistic benefits package to ensure all employees have what they need to thrive while working here.
When it comes to you and your family’s health, we cover 100% of medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees - and 80% of healthcare premiums for dependents. This starts from day one. We also offer at least 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents (up to 20 weeks for birthing parents), and generous vacation policies to give employees time to recharge when needed.
To build America’s energy future, we need everyone at the table. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply to our open jobs.
If you may require reasonable accommodations to participate in our interview process, please contact accommodations@formenergy.com. Requests for accommodations will be treated with discretion.
Form Energy is committed to maintaining the privacy of our applicants. Please be aware that we will never solicit sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers or bank account details during the recruiting or hiring process.

Align your credentials to hardware deployment cycles
Form Energy's Project Engineer roles emphasize commissioning and field integration of battery storage systems. Translate your resume around project lifecycle ownership, from prototype validation through site deployment, not just lab or design work.
Verify your OPT timeline before applying
F-1 OPT gives you 12 months of work authorization, with a 60-day grace period if employment ends early. If your OPT expiration falls within six months of a target start date, flag that proactively during recruiter screens.
Research Form Energy's active project locations
Project Engineers at Form Energy often work on-site at battery manufacturing or grid deployment locations. Showing flexibility on location in your application removes a common friction point employers weigh when assessing sponsorship investment.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Not every Project Engineer posting at Form Energy lists sponsorship availability upfront. Use Migrate Mate to filter Form Energy listings by the visa types they sponsor, so you apply to roles where your visa category is already supported.
Request H-1B filing timing details before accepting
H-1B cap registration opens in March, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest. Confirm with your hiring contact whether Form Energy's timeline accommodates the lottery cycle before you accept an offer contingent on H-1B sponsorship.
Prepare PERM-ready documentation early for EB-2 or EB-3
Form Energy sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, which require DOL PERM labor certification. Start compiling transcripts, prior employment records, and degree equivalency documentation now, since PERM audits can extend the process by a year or more.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Form Energy sponsor H-1B visas for Project Engineers?
Yes, Form Energy sponsors H-1B visas for Project Engineer roles. H-1B sponsorship for this function is subject to the annual cap and lottery, with registration in March and employment eligibility beginning October 1. If you're already on H-1B status with a different employer, a transfer can proceed year-round without waiting for the lottery.
How do I apply for Project Engineer jobs at Form Energy?
You can browse and apply for Project Engineer openings at Form Energy through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm your category is supported before applying. Tailor your application to hardware project ownership and energy storage systems experience, since Form Energy's engineering hiring focuses on candidates who can own full project lifecycles from commissioning through field operations.
Which visa types does Form Energy commonly use for Project Engineer roles?
Form Energy sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Cards including EB-2 and EB-3 for Project Engineer positions. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations. F-1 CPT and OPT are common entry points for recent graduates, with H-1B sponsorship often following once a candidate demonstrates long-term fit.
What qualifications does Form Energy expect for Project Engineer candidates?
Form Energy's Project Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering, along with hands-on experience in hardware manufacturing, commissioning, or field deployment. Experience with battery systems, energy storage, or grid-scale infrastructure strengthens your profile. Candidates who can demonstrate end-to-end project ownership, including cross-functional coordination with manufacturing and operations teams, tend to be prioritized.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Project Engineer offer from Form Energy?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B sponsorship requires clearing the annual lottery, meaning the earliest start date after a March registration is October 1, a six-month-plus gap. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border on the day of entry. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card processes through DOL PERM typically take two to four years from initial filing, excluding any visa backlogs.
