Job Roles at McCarter & English Companies
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in McCarter & English Visa Sponsorship USA
Target practice groups with high associate demand
McCarter & English's litigation, corporate, and intellectual property groups tend to drive associate hiring. Focus your outreach on these practice areas, where firms historically have the most consistent need for sponsored talent at the associate level.
Understand that law firm H-1B sponsorship is selective
Large law firms sponsor H-1B visas, but typically for roles requiring a JD or highly specialized legal expertise. Make sure your background clearly maps to a billable role, general business or operations positions are far less likely to be sponsored.
Time your application around law firm recruiting cycles
McCarter & English follows structured associate and lateral hiring cycles. Fall on-campus recruiting targets law students, while lateral hiring runs year-round. Knowing which cycle fits your situation helps you approach the firm at the right moment.
Use verified sponsorship data to prioritize your search
Not every law firm sponsors visas consistently. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus on firms like McCarter & English that have an active track record rather than guessing.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions in legal interviews
Law firms sponsoring H-1B visas are acutely aware of immigration compliance. Be ready to clearly articulate your visa status, timeline, and any transition plans. Demonstrating you understand the process builds confidence with hiring partners reviewing your candidacy.
Leverage bar admission and clerkship experience as differentiators
McCarter & English, like most Am Law firms, prioritizes candidates with strong academic credentials, bar admission in relevant states, and judicial clerkship experience. These credentials directly strengthen a sponsorship case by demonstrating specialized legal qualification for the role.

Does McCarter & English sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, McCarter & English sponsors H-1B visas. The firm has an active sponsorship track record within the legal services industry, primarily supporting attorneys and legal professionals in roles that require specialized expertise. If you're a visa-dependent candidate targeting the firm, H-1B is the primary pathway to focus on during your application process.
What types of roles at McCarter & English are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at McCarter & English is concentrated in attorney-track roles, particularly associates in practice groups like litigation, corporate, and intellectual property. These positions require a JD and bar admission, which satisfies the specialty occupation standard for H-1B purposes. Non-attorney or general administrative roles are significantly less likely to qualify for sponsorship.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at McCarter & English?
Migrate Mate tracks verified sponsoring employers including McCarter & English, so you can browse open roles filtered by confirmed sponsorship history. This saves you from applying to positions where sponsorship is uncertain. Beyond that, the firm posts openings through its careers page, and lateral hiring is often facilitated through legal recruiters who specialize in placing sponsored candidates at Am Law firms.
What is the typical application and sponsorship timeline at a firm like McCarter & English?
For fall on-campus recruiting, the process runs August through October with offers extended shortly after callback interviews. Lateral hiring timelines vary but typically span four to eight weeks from first interview to offer. H-1B sponsorship itself adds several months after an offer is accepted, since the employer must file the petition before your start date, timing matters significantly if you're transitioning from OPT or another status.
Does McCarter & English sponsor F-1 OPT or TN visa holders?
McCarter & English has sponsored candidates on F-1 OPT, which means international law graduates working under post-graduation work authorization may be considered for roles while the firm pursues longer-term H-1B sponsorship. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles. If you hold either status, it's worth discussing your situation directly with the recruiting team early in the process to confirm sponsorship feasibility.
