INTRODUCTION
We're looking for a highly creative, entrepreneurial, and organized Lead, Startup & Ventures Marketing to expand MongoDB's AI-native marketing strategy and strengthen our presence across the startup and VC ecosystem in the Bay Area.
This is a highly strategic, regional leadership role focused on ecosystem building, execution, and operating at scale. You will be responsible for establishing MongoDB as the database of choice for high-growth, venture-backed startups across the Bay Area, as well as serve as MongoDB's primary representative to the local startup ecosystem. In this role, you will be responsible for developing relationships with VCs, accelerators, founders, and community partners to design and deliver high-impact programs, events, and partnerships that drive awareness, adoption, and long-term affinity for MongoDB. As the regional startup leader, you will own the planning and lead the team responsible for the execution of startup-focused initiatives, including hackathons, demo nights, founder dinners, and conference-adjacent activations. This role sits at the intersection of partnerships, community, events, and content, and requires a leader who can pair strategic vision with hands-on execution.
Position Expectations
- Serve as the MongoDB representative within the Bay Area startup ecosystem: Develop deep relationships across the Bay Area startup community, building trusted connections with top VCs, founders, operators, and ecosystem influencers
- Drive high-value startup acquisition: Design and execute a targeted acquisition strategy focused on engaging and converting high-potential startups in the region
- Expand MongoDB's physical presence in the Bay Area: Lead an ecosystem strategy centered on high-impact founder programming, including VC-partnered events, demo days, hackathons, founder dinners, and other flagship community events
- Amplify MongoDB's startup presence through digital channels: Collaborate with Brand, Social, and Digital Marketing teams to extend regional startup initiatives across social media, earned content, and owned media
- Own cross-functional alignment for the regional startup audience: Embed the startup and developer audience into marketing initiatives driven by Revenue Marketing, Strategic Events, DevRel, and other internal teams, ensuring programs and activations effectively serve the startup ecosystem
- Measure impact and continuously optimize: Define and track key success metrics for startup engagement, such as attendance quality, funded-founder participation, and program applications, and use insights to refine strategy and programming
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Have 8+ years of experience in marketing, community, ecosystem, or events roles focused on startups, developers, or technical founders
- Have experience managing and developing high-performing teams, with the ability to set strategy while supporting strong on-the-ground execution
- Possess deep familiarity with the Bay Area startup ecosystem, ideally with established relationships across VCs, founders, accelerators, and key founder communities
- Have experience working in or closely with startups or venture capital firms, with a strong understanding of how early-stage companies operate and grow
- Be comfortable engaging technical audiences, with enough understanding of startup engineering workflows to shape credible and compelling programming
- Thrive in 0-to-1 environments, building strategy, programs, and operational processes from the ground up
- Be highly organized and execution-oriented, able to drive initiatives from strategy through delivery while managing multiple stakeholders
- Be data-driven, able to define success metrics, track impact, and communicate results clearly
- Communicate confidently and effectively with founders, investors, and senior internal stakeholders
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, collaborating with a globally distributed team while maintaining an active presence within the Bay Area startup ecosystem

Frame your portfolio around developer audiences
MongoDB's Marketing org focuses heavily on developer relations, product-led growth, and technical content. Showing campaign work or content strategies aimed at technical buyers signals direct fit and reduces the perceived hiring risk that often stalls sponsorship conversations.
Target roles where LCA approval is straightforward
Marketing Specialist and Product Marketing Manager titles at tech companies like MongoDB typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria. Roles with a clear degree requirement in marketing, communications, or business strengthen your H-1B petition and reduce RFE risk before it starts.
Ask about E-3 eligibility if you hold Australian citizenship
MongoDB sponsors the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and processes faster than the H-1B. If you're Australian, raise this in the recruiter screen. It removes cap-subject uncertainty entirely and makes the sponsorship decision significantly simpler for the hiring team.
Align your start date to the H-1B cap timeline
Cap-subject H-1B petitions have a March registration window and an October 1 start date if selected. When negotiating your offer, build that timeline into your expected start date so MongoDB's HR team can file USCIS paperwork without timeline pressure.
Search MongoDB openings through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Marketing roles at MongoDB by visa type, so you can identify which open positions have active sponsorship. This narrows your applications to roles where the sponsorship pathway is already confirmed before you invest time in the process.

Does MongoDB sponsor H-1B visas for Marketings?
Yes, MongoDB sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Marketing roles. Positions like Product Marketing Manager, Content Strategist, and Demand Generation Manager typically meet USCIS specialty occupation criteria when a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field is required. Your employer handles the USCIS filing after you receive and accept an offer.
How do I apply for Marketing jobs at MongoDB?
Browse open Marketing roles directly on MongoDB's careers page or use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for positions that offer visa sponsorship. When applying, tailor your resume to MongoDB's developer-focused marketing motion. Mention your visa status early in recruiter conversations so sponsorship can be factored in before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does MongoDB commonly use for Marketing roles?
MongoDB sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and EB-2/EB-3 Green Card pathways for Marketing positions. H-1B is the most common route for non-Australian candidates. Australians can pursue the E-3, which skips the lottery entirely. TN is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles.
What qualifications does MongoDB typically expect for Marketing roles?
MongoDB's Marketing team generally requires a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field. For product marketing and technical content roles, familiarity with developer tools, cloud infrastructure, or SaaS go-to-market strategy gives candidates a meaningful edge. Campaign analytics experience and B2B enterprise marketing backgrounds are frequently referenced in their job descriptions.
How do I manage the timeline between an offer and visa approval?
If you're pursuing an H-1B, the cap-subject process means your start date will typically be October 1 following the March lottery. Build that into your offer negotiation. For OPT candidates, confirm your remaining work authorization window covers the gap. MongoDB's HR team handles USCIS filings, but understanding the DOL Labor Condition Application process helps you ask the right questions upfront.
