INTRODUCTION
At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next. We launched a new ad-supported tier in November 2022 to offer our members more choice in how they consume their content. Our new tier allows us to attract new members at a lower price point while also creating a compelling path for advertisers to reach deeply engaged audiences.
ROLE
The Ads Platform Engineering creates the ecosystem that spans across the “Pitch to Pay” process. It goes all the way from enabling our sales teams (and other DSPs, resellers) to engage advertisers to run their campaigns on Netflix, and cuts across inventory and order management, campaign execution, ad serving, audience onboarding, targeting and delivery, measurement, reporting and finance. Our team is new, yet we have enormous ambitions of building highly performant advertising systems and delivering high impact to our business by monetizing our incredible slate of content. As one of the newest entrants in the rapidly growing Connected TV advertising space, we seek to build unique value propositions that help us differentiate from the competition and become a market leader in record time. The Ads Reporting Infrastructure team builds and operates the foundational systems that collect, enrich, and deliver ads-related events at scale. These systems ensure that raw signals from client devices, servers, and third-party integrations are transformed into clean, reliable, and privacy-safe data streams powering measurement, serving, reporting, and financial workflows. We are looking for highly motivated engineers working in the advertising space who are excited to join us on this journey.

Frame your systems experience around scale
Netflix evaluates backend engineers on distributed systems depth, not breadth. Before applying, document specific experience with high-throughput APIs, microservices, or streaming pipelines. Vague résumé language gets filtered early in technical screens.
Target roles aligned with your degree field
H-1B specialty occupation requires your degree field to match the role. For a backend engineering position, a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field is your strongest foundation. Mismatches create USCIS petition risk.
Browse open roles through Migrate Mate
Netflix posts backend engineering positions across multiple teams with different sponsorship timelines. Use Migrate Mate to filter active Netflix openings by visa type so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed, not assumed.
Expect a multi-round technical interview process
Netflix's engineering interviews emphasize system design and coding fundamentals over culture-fit rounds. Backend candidates typically move through a technical phone screen, a take-home or live coding round, and a full system design loop before reaching an offer stage.
Confirm LCA filing before your start date
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can adjudicate your H-1B petition. Ask your recruiter or immigration contact to confirm LCA certification is underway once you've signed your offer.
Time your application around the H-1B cap cycle
If you're on F-1 OPT, the April USCIS registration window directly affects your transition timeline. An October 1 start date means your OPT must cover you through at least late September. Map your graduation and OPT expiration dates against this cycle before accepting an offer.

Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineers?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineer roles. The company has a consistent record of petitioning for international engineers across its platform, infrastructure, and data engineering teams. Sponsorship is typically initiated after an offer is signed, with Netflix's immigration counsel managing the H-1B petition and Labor Condition Application filing with DOL.
How do I apply for Backend Software Engineer jobs at Netflix?
Apply directly through Netflix's careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to browse current Backend Software Engineer openings filtered by visa sponsorship type. Netflix's backend roles span teams including API infrastructure, content delivery, and data platform. Tailoring your application to a specific team's technical stack, rather than submitting a generic résumé, meaningfully improves your chances of reaching a technical screen.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly sponsor for Backend Software Engineers?
Netflix sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and O-1 visas for backend engineering roles, and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates. For longer-term pathways, Netflix also initiates PERM labor certification supporting EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and current immigration status.
What qualifications does Netflix expect for Backend Software Engineer roles?
Netflix backend engineering roles typically require demonstrated experience with large-scale distributed systems, proficiency in at least one systems-level or JVM language such as Java, Kotlin, or Go, and familiarity with cloud infrastructure. Senior roles weight independent system design judgment heavily. A bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field is generally expected and directly relevant to H-1B specialty occupation requirements.
How do I think about visa sponsorship timing when targeting Netflix?
If you're currently on F-1 OPT, map your OPT expiration date against the H-1B cap registration window, which opens in March for an October 1 start. Netflix typically begins immigration paperwork shortly after an offer is accepted, but USCIS processing for cap-subject H-1B petitions can run several months. If your OPT runs short, ask whether a cap-exempt filing or a bridge arrangement is available.
