At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.
About the Team
Ads Data Engineering is at the core of building a data ecosystem that powers Netflix's understanding and decision-making about the impact of ads on our business. This team builds rich, connected, and easily accessible data products spanning ad inventory, forecasting, targeting, ad serving, pacing, and more. This role will lead the Ads Signals & Measurement team across three core areas:
- Conversion & Attribution: Building the data and attribution capabilities that connect advertising exposure to outcomes, powering conversion measurement and ML-based optimization.
- Measurement Data Foundations: Building the data foundations that power our first-party measurement solutions across the full funnel, including incrementality, lift, experimentation, and third-party measurement studies.
- Audience Onboarding & Identity: Enabling audience onboarding, identity resolution, and rich signal generation to power audience and targeting solutions.
Horizontally, the team connects these areas through a data flywheel where signals, identity, measurement, attribution, and optimization continuously reinforce one another. This role sits at the intersection of these domains, ensuring they come together as a cohesive data ecosystem that powers both measurement and performance optimization. We're looking for a Staff Data Engineer to help set the technical bar and lead teams across these domains.
Who are you?
- A seasoned technologist with 12+ years building data-foundation, backend, or data engineering systems, someone other engineers naturally look to for direction.
- You've spent real time in advertising or ad-tech data, specifically in domains like Ads identity graph, measurement, targeting, and while your depth may run deepest in one domain, you're comfortable moving across several.
- You've built trust and driven technical direction across organizational lines, not just within your own team, and you've done it in more than one company or role.
- You take data privacy and governance seriously, not as a checkbox, but as something you've actually built for.
- You're a clear, thoughtful communicator who can translate technical nuance for engineers and business context for leaders, often in the same conversation.
- You're comfortable with ambiguity, and just as comfortable helping a room of smart, opinionated engineers land on a shared answer.
- You genuinely enjoy helping other engineers grow, and see that as just as core to the job as your own technical output.
What will you do?
- Set technical direction and design coherence across the various orgs, connecting the dots between domains rather than optimizing just one.
- Weigh in on and help resolve cross-domain design decisions, helping teams converge on approaches that scale across the org, not just within a single team.
- Mentor and coach data engineers, helping them grow technically and adopt AI and emerging tools and technologies.
- Build strong partnerships with senior engineers on our data platform and D&I teams, contributing to and shaping horizontal and platform-wide efforts.
What (ideally) do you know?
- Modern data stacks end-to-end: ingestion, processing, storage, and serving.
- Ad-tech systems and data flows, ideally with direct exposure to at least 2 domains across measurement, attribution, identity, audience, targeting.
- Large-scale distributed data systems such as Spark, Kafka, or columnar stores.
- The latest in AI and agentic technologies as they apply to data engineering.
- A graduate degree in Computer Science with a data focus is a plus, as is experience formally mentoring engineers on their technical growth.

Align your credentials to Netflix's data stack
Netflix's Data Manager roles frequently require fluency in Spark, Hive, and proprietary internal tooling built on AWS. Frame your resume around large-scale metadata management and pipeline governance, not generic data administration.
Target roles posted under content operations
At Netflix, Data Manager positions often appear under Content Operations or Studio Technology rather than a pure engineering track. Searching only under 'Data' on their careers page means missing a significant portion of relevant openings.
Confirm your visa category before applying
Netflix sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT for Data Manager roles. Knowing which category fits your nationality and degree before your first interview lets you answer sponsorship questions confidently without stalling the offer stage.
Request LCA filing details during offer negotiation
Once Netflix extends an offer, ask HR to confirm the prevailing wage level on your Labor Condition Application. DOL wage levels directly affect your offered salary tier, and Data Manager roles typically benchmark at Level II or III.
Build a portfolio around Netflix-scale data problems
Netflix interviewers assess how you'd handle metadata consistency across millions of assets in multiple languages. Demonstrating experience with multilingual taxonomy, rights data, or content catalog normalization will differentiate you from generic data management candidates.
Use Migrate Mate to surface sponsored openings quickly
Netflix posts Data Manager roles across several team pages simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Netflix openings that explicitly support your visa type, so you're applying to positions already cleared for sponsorship rather than chasing dead ends.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Data Managers?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Data Manager roles. Netflix files petitions through the standard H-1B cap process each April, so timing your offer and hiring process to align with the USCIS registration window in March is important. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, Netflix can file an H-1B transfer without waiting for the next cap cycle.
How do I apply for Data Manager jobs at Netflix?
Applications go through Netflix's careers portal at jobs.netflix.com. Data Manager roles appear under multiple team categories including Content Operations, Studio Technology, and Data Engineering, so search broadly. Migrate Mate also aggregates Netflix's sponsored openings in one place, filtered by visa type, which is useful if you want to confirm sponsorship eligibility before investing time in the application.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly use for Data Manager roles?
Netflix sponsors H-1B and E-3 visas most commonly for Data Manager positions, along with TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose roles fall under USMCA-qualifying occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for candidates still in their academic authorization period. Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is available for long-term employees, typically initiated after you've established yourself in the role.
What qualifications does Netflix expect for Data Manager roles?
Netflix typically expects a bachelor's degree in computer science, information management, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience managing large-scale content catalogs or metadata pipelines is weighted heavily, particularly if you've worked with multilingual datasets or rights management systems. Proficiency with distributed data tools and SQL is standard, and experience with Netflix's internal tooling ecosystem or comparable streaming platform infrastructure strengthens your application significantly.
How do I time my application around the H-1B cap cycle?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration each March for the fiscal year starting October 1. If Netflix hires you before registration closes, your petition enters the lottery with a selection decision by April. A gap between offer and October 1 start date is common. Netflix's HR team is experienced with this timeline, so the process is structured to bridge that window without jeopardizing your employment start date.
