INTRODUCTION
At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.
The core function of the Netflix product is to distribute our entertainment offerings (TV series, film, games, live events, podcasts, etc.) to our members. We do this via two main mechanisms: personalization algorithms and curated merchandising. The Personalization & Merchandising Science team is at the forefront of driving innovations in this problem space of content distribution. Leverage techniques across experimentation, observational causal inference, analytics, statistical modeling, and econometrics, the team collaborates in deeply cross-functional settings to identify, incubate and enable experiences that entertain and delight our members by surfacing the right content at the right time.
We are looking for an exceptional leader to manage a team of data scientists and analytics engineers to guide our approach to innovation in content distribution. This role works highly cross-functionally amidst a complex stakeholder landscape across Engineering, Merchandising, Product Management, Consumer Insights, and Design. A strong candidate for this role is able to inform decision making using data and exceptional judgment, possesses excellent communication and collaboration skills, and is a strong, seasoned people leader who can effectively guide a talented team.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will:
- Lead a team of technical roles across data science and analytics engineering to shape the measurement and innovation strategy for the personalization and merchandising spaces, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders to drive durable business impact
- Own end-to-end outcomes for measurement and insights in your domain, ensuring the team delivers timely, decision-ready work that meaningfully shapes product direction and development
- Partner closely with other functions to frame the right problems, surface tradeoffs, and build a shared, causal understanding of content distribution
- Set a clear vision and direction for the team, establishing priorities and operating norms that enable strong thought partnership, high-quality execution, and sustained impact
- Act as a role model for Netflix values in day-to-day work and interactions, demonstrating strong judgment, candor, and accountability
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be highly successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience leading data science, analytics, or related technical teams in algorithmically-focused domains, with accountability for both setting direction and delivering outcomes
- Strong analytical judgment and structured thinking, with the ability to move from messy data and ambiguous problems to clear insights, recommendations, and decisions
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to influence partners through clear framing, tradeoff articulation, and compelling data storytelling
- A track record of operating effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, exercising strong ownership and judgment with minimal process or oversight
- A track record of building high-performing teams by developing senior ICs into trusted thought partners, increasing both their individual impact and the team’s overall leverage
- A Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field, with deep expertise in applied data science and experimentation within consumer-facing, algorithmically-driven products

Align your credentials to Netflix's data stack
Netflix's Data Manager roles frequently require fluency in Spark, Hive, and proprietary internal tooling built on AWS. Frame your resume around large-scale metadata management and pipeline governance, not generic data administration.
Target roles posted under content operations
At Netflix, Data Manager positions often appear under Content Operations or Studio Technology rather than a pure engineering track. Searching only under 'Data' on their careers page means missing a significant portion of relevant openings.
Confirm your visa category before applying
Netflix sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT for Data Manager roles. Knowing which category fits your nationality and degree before your first interview lets you answer sponsorship questions confidently without stalling the offer stage.
Request LCA filing details during offer negotiation
Once Netflix extends an offer, ask HR to confirm the prevailing wage level on your Labor Condition Application. DOL wage levels directly affect your offered salary tier, and Data Manager roles typically benchmark at Level II or III.
Build a portfolio around Netflix-scale data problems
Netflix interviewers assess how you'd handle metadata consistency across millions of assets in multiple languages. Demonstrating experience with multilingual taxonomy, rights data, or content catalog normalization will differentiate you from generic data management candidates.
Use Migrate Mate to surface sponsored openings quickly
Netflix posts Data Manager roles across several team pages simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Netflix openings that explicitly support your visa type, so you're applying to positions already cleared for sponsorship rather than chasing dead ends.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Data Managers?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Data Manager roles. Netflix files petitions through the standard H-1B cap process each April, so timing your offer and hiring process to align with the USCIS registration window in March is important. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, Netflix can file an H-1B transfer without waiting for the next cap cycle.
How do I apply for Data Manager jobs at Netflix?
Applications go through Netflix's careers portal at jobs.netflix.com. Data Manager roles appear under multiple team categories including Content Operations, Studio Technology, and Data Engineering, so search broadly. Migrate Mate also aggregates Netflix's sponsored openings in one place, filtered by visa type, which is useful if you want to confirm sponsorship eligibility before investing time in the application.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly use for Data Manager roles?
Netflix sponsors H-1B and E-3 visas most commonly for Data Manager positions, along with TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose roles fall under USMCA-qualifying occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for candidates still in their academic authorization period. Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is available for long-term employees, typically initiated after you've established yourself in the role.
What qualifications does Netflix expect for Data Manager roles?
Netflix typically expects a bachelor's degree in computer science, information management, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience managing large-scale content catalogs or metadata pipelines is weighted heavily, particularly if you've worked with multilingual datasets or rights management systems. Proficiency with distributed data tools and SQL is standard, and experience with Netflix's internal tooling ecosystem or comparable streaming platform infrastructure strengthens your application significantly.
How do I time my application around the H-1B cap cycle?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration each March for the fiscal year starting October 1. If Netflix hires you before registration closes, your petition enters the lottery with a selection decision by April. A gap between offer and October 1 start date is common. Netflix's HR team is experienced with this timeline, so the process is structured to bridge that window without jeopardizing your employment start date.
