The New Trier Theatre program consists of acting and technical theatre courses available to students throughout their four year experience. The position includes teaching Theatre courses that span from Theatre 1 to Theatre 4, and Technical Theatre & Design. It is a general expectation that Theatre faculty direct or sponsor at least one extracurricular theatre production or related organization each school year for an additional stipend. We are seeking an individual with a background in directing and theatre history and a familiarity with a variety of acting, directing, and design techniques. A strong candidate for this position should be able to collaborate with other theatre artists to contribute to a rigorous curriculum and after school program.
Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsements, including Theatre endorsement.
- Professional theatre performing and/or design experience.
- Knowledge of content, curriculum development, and best practices in theatre instruction.
- Experience with curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.

Job Responsibilities
- Work to develop, implement, and assess a high-quality curricular theatre program that welcomes students of all abilities and interest levels.
- Contribute to the development of extracurricular programs that align with the shared goals and practices of the Music & Theatre Department and Performing Arts Division.
- Guide and develop student growth in the areas of characterization, staging, text analysis, ensemble-building, design, theatre history, style performance, and vocal and physical preparation.
- Assist Department Chair/Coordinator and the Performing Arts Coordinators with the hiring, evaluation, and collaborative work of Theatre and Departmental Support Staff.
- Communicate with and arrange support from the New Trier Fine Arts Association Theatre liaisons.
- Coordinate field trips and student experiences related to Theatre education.
- Coordinate multiple guest artists and clinicians to work with students.
- Counsel students through the process of applying to summer camps, national awards, and college admissions.
- Develop, visit, and maintain a good relationship with sender schools.
- Attend and assist with Departmental and Performing Arts events as needed.
