About Redwood Materials
Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we're delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.
Staff High Voltage Electrical Engineer, EPC
Redwood Materials is seeking a Staff High Voltage Electrical Engineer to join our EPC team. This role is central to the design of high voltage electrical infrastructure to support our mission. Our mission is to build a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries by transforming recycled materials into high-quality inputs for new batteries.
Responsibilities will include:
- Lead the design of high voltage AC electrical systems, specifically for industrial substations (69kV to 345kV) and their integration with upstream transmission lines and downstream MV distribution
- Review and evaluate the design of existing substations to provide recommendations for improving reliability and stability
- Develop single-line diagrams, physical layout and design, protection and control systems, relay design and coordination, and grounding plans for substations
- Perform grid simulation and stability studies using industry standard tools such as PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN OneLiner and similar software
- Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs to support interconnection studies, permitting, and compliance for new renewable and BESS projects
- Perform short circuit, load flow, and arc flash studies
- Develop relay settings using SEL AcSELerator or equivalent software
- Evaluate and select high voltage equipment including switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, reactors, PTs, CTs, and protection relays

- Power system modeling using ETAP, SKM, or similar
- AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office
- Preferred proficiency in:
- Design of HVDC systems and converter station
- Strong understanding of protection and control systems, SCADA, and substation automation
- Highly motivated, proactive, and detail oriented
- Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written, and visual formats
- Field experience in construction and commissioning of high voltage systems is highly preferred
- A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!

Certify your electrical credentials for U.S. standards
State-level journeyman or master electrician licensure requirements vary, but Redwood Materials operates large-scale manufacturing facilities where NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical safety credentials carry real weight. Research Nevada's licensing reciprocity rules before you apply.
Target Redwood Materials' battery manufacturing expansion roles
Redwood Materials hires electricians specifically for lithium-ion battery recycling and cathode manufacturing facilities. Frame your experience around industrial automation, high-voltage DC systems, or PLC troubleshooting to align with the infrastructure their plants actually run on.
Search Redwood Materials openings through Migrate Mate
Redwood Materials sponsors across several visa categories for skilled roles. Use Migrate Mate to filter electrician openings by visa type so you're only applying to roles where your specific sponsorship need is already confirmed.
Clarify your visa category before submitting applications
Redwood Materials has sponsored H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT candidates. Knowing which category fits your nationality and status before you reach the offer stage lets you answer recruiter questions about timing and filing requirements without hesitation.
Anticipate the LCA filing step in your timeline
For H-1B and E-3 sponsorship, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS processing begins. Build at least four to six weeks of LCA lead time into your start date conversation with the Redwood Materials recruiting team.
Document hands-on industrial electrical experience precisely
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation classification for electrician roles. Emphasize systems-level work, such as switchgear installation, high-voltage commissioning, or industrial control integration, rather than general maintenance tasks when building your petition support documents.

Find Electrician at Redwood Materials JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Redwood Materials sponsor H-1B visas for Electricians?
Yes, Redwood Materials sponsors H-1B visas for qualified electricians. Because H-1B classification requires demonstrating a specialty occupation, your application is strongest when your role involves advanced electrical systems work, such as high-voltage industrial infrastructure or complex PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment, rather than general maintenance. Your employer files the petition with USCIS after securing a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL.
How do I apply for Electrician jobs at Redwood Materials?
Applications go through Redwood Materials' careers portal, where electrician openings are listed by facility and function. Before applying, confirm the role explicitly supports visa sponsorship for your category. Migrate Mate lets you browse verified Redwood Materials electrician openings filtered by visa type, so you can prioritize roles that already match your sponsorship situation before submitting anything.
Which visa types are commonly used for Electrician roles at Redwood Materials?
Redwood Materials has sponsored candidates across H-1B, E-3, TN, EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT categories for skilled roles at their facilities. Australian citizens are well-positioned for the E-3, which has no lottery and allows biennial renewals. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying electrical occupations may be eligible for TN status. F-1 OPT and CPT candidates typically need engineering or technical degree programs that align with the role's specialty occupation framing.
What qualifications does Redwood Materials expect for sponsored Electrician positions?
Redwood Materials' electrician roles are embedded in active battery manufacturing and recycling operations, so hands-on experience with industrial electrical systems is the baseline expectation. Relevant credentials include journeyman licensure, NFPA 70E arc flash safety training, and documented experience with high-voltage DC systems, PLCs, or variable frequency drives. For visa sponsorship purposes, specialty occupation framing requires that your background demonstrates technical complexity beyond general construction or maintenance work.
How do I think about timing when pursuing sponsored Electrician roles at Redwood Materials?
Timing depends on your visa category. H-1B petitions are subject to an annual cap with a lottery in March, which means offers and filing must align months before your intended start date. E-3 and TN visas move faster and can be processed consularly in weeks rather than months. For F-1 OPT candidates, the 60-day grace period after your program ends is a hard deadline. Confirm your preferred start date and category with the recruiter early in the process.
