Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN eligibility is determined by the USMCA professions list, not ABB's job titles. Cross-reference your degree and the role ABB posted against that list before applying. Engineers, scientists, and computer professionals are among the most commonly eligible categories in manufacturing.
Target ABB's engineering and automation divisions
ABB's core business lines in robotics, power systems, and industrial automation generate consistent demand for TN-eligible roles. Focusing your search on these divisions improves your odds of landing a role where the job duties clearly map to a qualifying USMCA profession category.
Request an offer letter that covers all TN requirements
ABB's offer letter must confirm your profession category, your specific job duties, the employment period, and your salary. A vague letter can cause delays or a refusal at the border. Ask HR to reference the USMCA profession category explicitly in the letter before your travel date.
Prepare your credential documentation before the interview
ABB's hiring team will expect proof that your degree matches the offered role. Gather certified degree transcripts, a credential evaluation if your degree is non-U.S., and any relevant professional licensure ahead of your first interview so you can move quickly when an offer comes.
Use Migrate Mate to verify ABB's TN hiring history
Before applying, check whether ABB has a track record of supporting TN professionals in your target role. Migrate Mate surfaces employer-level data so you can see which roles and departments at ABB have historically supported TN admission, helping you focus your application on the strongest fit.
Time your border or consulate appointment strategically
Canadian nationals present TN documents at a U.S. port of entry and can typically gain admission the same day. Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate, which adds processing time. Confirm ABB's intended start date early so you build in enough lead time for your entry method.
ABB TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does ABB sponsor TN visas?
ABB supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying USMCA professions. Because TN is treaty-based, ABB doesn't file a petition with USCIS. Instead, ABB issues an offer letter that you present at the port of entry or U.S. consulate. Roles in engineering, automation, and technical disciplines are the most common fits.
Which ABB departments typically hire TN professionals?
ABB's robotics, power grids, electrification, and industrial automation divisions generate the most demand for TN-eligible candidates. Roles such as electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, computer systems analyst, and industrial designer frequently appear in these business units and align well with the USMCA professions list.
How do I start the TN process after receiving an ABB offer?
Once ABB issues your offer letter, Canadians travel directly to a U.S. land border or pre-clearance airport with the letter, their passport, and credential documents to request TN admission. Mexican nationals schedule a nonimmigrant visa appointment at a U.S. consulate. In both cases, ABB does not submit anything to USCIS on your behalf.
How long does the TN process take when working with ABB?
For Canadian nationals, admission can happen the same day at the port of entry once ABB provides the offer letter. Mexican nationals face consulate appointment wait times that vary by location and season. Build your timeline around ABB's intended start date and account for any consulate scheduling delays in your region.
How do I find open TN-eligible roles at ABB?
Search ABB's careers page filtering for engineering, technical, and automation roles, then cross-check the job duties against the USMCA professions list to confirm TN eligibility. Migrate Mate also lets you browse ABB's open positions and see which roles have historically supported TN professionals, so you can prioritize applications with the strongest fit.
How does TN visa admission work at ABB?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from ABB, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
