Align your degree to AMD's roles
TN eligibility depends on your degree field matching the USMCA professions list and the specific role AMD is filling. For hardware or software engineering positions, a degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a directly related field is what AMD recruiters and border officers need to see.
Target AMD's silicon design teams
AMD's chip architecture, GPU compute, and embedded systems groups are among the heaviest hirers of TN-eligible professionals. Searching for roles in these verticals gives you the strongest overlap between AMD's technical hiring needs and the engineering occupations covered under USMCA.
Request a detailed offer letter early
AMD's offer letter is your primary TN document at the border or consulate. Ask your AMD recruiter to include your job title, degree requirement, duties, start date, and wage before you finalize acceptance. Vague letters get challenged at ports of entry, so specificity matters.
Use Migrate Mate to verify AMD's sponsorship history
Before applying, confirm AMD actively supports TN admission for your target role. Migrate Mate surfaces employer-level data so you can see which occupation types AMD has historically supported, saving you time before committing to a full application cycle.
Prepare for border or consulate admission differences
Canadians present their AMD offer letter directly at a port of entry with no advance filing required. Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate and should schedule that appointment once AMD confirms the offer, since consulate wait times vary significantly by location and season.
Benchmark your salary against OFLC Wage Search
AMD operates in high-cost semiconductor hubs where wages vary by level and location. Run your offered role and location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating, so your compensation reflects the prevailing wage standard for your occupation and region.
AMD TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does AMD sponsor TN visas?
Yes, AMD supports TN admission for qualified Canadian and Mexican nationals in roles that fall under the USMCA professions list. AMD is not filing a petition on your behalf; instead, it issues an offer letter you present at the border or consulate. Engineering, computer science, and related technical roles are the most common qualifying occupations at AMD.
Which AMD departments typically hire TN professionals?
AMD's semiconductor engineering, GPU architecture, software development, and hardware verification teams are the most active areas for TN-eligible hires. These groups require specialized technical degrees that align directly with USMCA-covered occupations, making them the strongest fit for Canadian and Mexican nationals pursuing TN admission at AMD.
How do I start the TN process once AMD extends an offer?
Once AMD extends an offer, ask your recruiter to provide a detailed support letter covering your job title, duties, required degree, salary, and employment period. Canadians then present this letter, along with credential documents, at a U.S. port of entry on the day of admission. Mexican nationals schedule a consular appointment and present the same package there.
How long does TN admission take for AMD roles?
Canadians can typically complete TN admission at the border in a single day, assuming documentation is complete and the role clearly maps to a USMCA profession. Mexican nationals face variable consulate wait times that can range from days to several weeks depending on location. AMD can adjust your start date to accommodate consulate scheduling when needed.
How do I find open TN-eligible roles at AMD?
Migrate Mate lists AMD positions filtered for TN-eligible candidates, so you can focus on roles where AMD has supported TN admission for comparable occupations. You can also search AMD's careers page directly and cross-reference open positions against the USMCA professions list and O*NET occupation profiles to confirm your degree field qualifies before applying.
How does TN visa admission work at AMD?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from AMD, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
