Match your occupation to USMCA categories
Applied Materials hires across engineering and scientific disciplines, but your role must map to a recognized USMCA profession. Cross-reference your job title against the official USMCA TN occupation list before applying, and confirm your degree field directly supports the position.
Target hardware and process engineering teams
Applied Materials's core business involves semiconductor equipment design and process technology. TN candidates with backgrounds in electrical, mechanical, chemical, or materials engineering align most directly with active hiring needs and have the clearest path to a qualifying support letter.
Request a role-specific offer letter
The offer letter Applied Materials provides is your primary TN document at the border or consulate. Ask HR to specify your USMCA occupation category, degree requirement, and prearranged employment status explicitly. Vague letters draw officer scrutiny and can result in delays.
Prepare for same-day Canadian border admission
Canadian nationals don't need a visa stamp and can present TN documents directly at a U.S. port of entry. Bring your Applied Materials offer letter, degree credentials, and passport. Most approvals happen the same day, so scheduling your start date close to crossing is practical.
Use Migrate Mate to verify employer TN history
Before negotiating your start date, confirm Applied Materials has supported TN admissions for roles like yours. Migrate Mate shows employer-level work authorization data so you can assess sponsorship patterns across departments and approach the hiring conversation with accurate expectations.
Align your degree documentation before the interview
Officers assess whether your specific degree qualifies you for the stated USMCA occupation. If your degree title differs from standard U.S. equivalents, prepare a credential evaluation from a recognized organization and bring your official transcripts to avoid administrative delays.

The company issues offer letters that TN candidates present at the border or U.S. consulate. Roles in engineering, scientific research, and technical fields align most commonly with the USMCA profession categories Applied Materials hires into.
Which departments at Applied Materials typically support TN candidates?
Engineering-focused teams, particularly those working in semiconductor process development, equipment design, and materials science, are where TN candidates most frequently land at Applied Materials. Software and systems engineering roles also appear regularly. Research and development positions often require degree backgrounds that map cleanly to USMCA science and engineering categories.
How do I start the TN process with Applied Materials?
Once you receive a job offer, request a TN support letter from Applied Materials HR specifying your USMCA occupation, your role's degree requirement, and your employment start date. Canadian nationals take this letter to a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals schedule a consular interview. There is no USCIS petition or LCA involved in TN admission.
How long does TN admission take at Applied Materials?
For Canadian nationals, admission happens at the port of entry on the day you cross, assuming your documents are in order. Mexican nationals must complete a consular appointment, which varies by location and season but typically takes a few weeks. TN status is granted in up to three-year increments and can be renewed without a cap limit.
How do I find open TN roles at Applied Materials?
Search Applied Materials's careers page and filter by engineering and scientific disciplines that match your USMCA occupation. Migrate Mate also surfaces roles at employers with documented TN and work authorization histories, so you can target positions where your status is already understood by the hiring team before your first conversation.

Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Applied Materials, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
