Match your degree to USMCA's profession list
TN eligibility turns on whether your specific degree field maps to an approved USMCA profession, not just your job title. Cross-check your credentials against the USMCA Annex 1603-D-1 list before applying to ASM roles in process engineering or materials science.
Target ASM's semiconductor equipment engineering teams
ASM's core hiring sits in equipment development, thin-film deposition, and process integration. These teams regularly bring on engineers whose backgrounds in chemical, electrical, or materials engineering align with TN-eligible professions, making them your strongest entry points for TN-supported roles.
Request a detailed TN support letter from ASM
ASM's offer letter must specify your USMCA profession category, describe your duties, confirm the prearranged employment, and state the expected duration. Border officers scrutinize vague letters closely, so get ASM's HR team to align the letter language with the exact profession you're claiming.
Verify your wage against the OFLC Wage Search
Although TN doesn't require an LCA, a salary below the prevailing wage for your occupation and ASM's location raises questions at the border. Run your offered salary through the OFLC Wage Search before your port-of-entry appointment to spot any gaps early.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm ASM's TN hiring history
Before investing time in an application, check whether ASM has a track record of issuing TN support letters for your specific role type. Migrate Mate surfaces employer-level data so you can see how actively ASM hires TN professionals in your occupation before you reach out.
Prepare your occupational evidence using O*NET
If a border officer questions whether your role qualifies as an approved USMCA profession, an O*NET occupation profile for your specific job code helps demonstrate the standard duties and education requirements. Print it alongside your offer letter as a supporting reference during your TN admission.
ASM TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does ASM sponsor TN visas?
ASM supports TN admission for qualified Canadian and Mexican professionals by issuing offer letters that document the prearranged employment required at the port of entry or U.S. consulate. ASM doesn't file a petition with USCIS for TN, since TN is a treaty-based admission status under USMCA, not an employer-sponsored petition. Eligible candidates present ASM's letter directly at the border or consulate.
Which roles at ASM typically qualify for TN admission?
ASM's engineering and technical departments offer the strongest alignment with USMCA-eligible professions. Roles in process engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, and computer systems analysis commonly meet TN profession requirements. Scientific and research positions within ASM's semiconductor equipment development teams also frequently fall within approved USMCA categories.
How do I apply for a TN-supported position at ASM?
Apply through ASM's careers portal, and once you receive an offer, work with ASM's HR team to obtain a detailed support letter specifying your USMCA profession category, job duties, employment duration, and compensation. Canadian citizens present this letter at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate abroad before traveling. You can search current ASM openings on Migrate Mate to find roles aligned with your TN profession.
How long does TN admission take when starting at ASM?
Canadian citizens who present at a land border port of entry can receive TN admission the same day if documentation is complete. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate face appointment-dependent timelines that typically range from a few days to several weeks depending on consulate workload. ASM's support letter is valid only for the role and duration specified, so timing your border or consulate appointment close to your start date matters.
What should I bring to my TN admission appointment for an ASM role?
Bring ASM's offer letter, your valid passport, proof of citizenship for Canada or Mexico, your academic credentials showing the qualifying degree, and any professional licenses relevant to your occupation. For technical roles at ASM, a diploma in the specific engineering or science field tied to your USMCA profession category is especially important. Supplementary documents like an O*NET occupation profile for your job code can help if an officer asks clarifying questions about your role.
How does TN visa admission work at ASM?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from ASM, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
