Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today's five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected.
Position Overview
The Launch Operations Mechanical Engineer plays a critical role in the final, high-stakes phase of mission success. This position is responsible for overseeing mechanical processes and equipment at the launch base, ensuring all systems adhere to rigorous aerospace standards. You will bridge the gap between design and flight, managing the physical build, qualification, and configuration of the satellite while supporting the design of the essential Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) required for site operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical integration efforts at the launch site, ensuring the satellite is flight-ready and configured according to mission specifications.
- Design and implement Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) tailored for launch site operations, including handling fixtures, transport containers, and integration stands.
- Oversee the mechanical assembly and qualification testing of satellite hardware, ensuring every component meets safety and performance standards prior to liftoff.
- Enforce strict aerospace industry standards across all mechanical operations to mitigate risk and ensure mission reliability.
- Work closely with integration, systems, and launch vehicle teams to synchronize mechanical activities with the overall launch schedule.
Qualifications
- Strong background in mechanical engineering with a focus on aerospace hardware integration and MGSE design.
- Experience working in high-pressure launch base or cleanroom environments where precision is paramount.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CREO, SolidWorks, or Catia) for developing ground support hardware.
- Deep understanding of aerospace mechanical standards and safety protocols.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues on the fly during critical integration windows.
Education
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in the aerospace industry or a high-flow manufacturing environment. Experience navigating the lifecycle of a product from design/build through to final qualification and deployment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automated integration systems used in large-scale aerospace assembly.
- Advanced proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure high-precision interfaces between the satellite and MGSE.
- Previous experience leading small teams or managing specific hardware subsystems through a full launch campaign.
Soft Skills
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of all documentation and project deliverables.
Technology Stack
- CAD Tools: AutoDesk Inventor, SolidWorks, NX, or Creo
- Analysis Tools: FEA experience is a plus
- Data/Documentation Systems: Fusion or equivalent PDM/PLM tools
- General Tools: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Physical Requirements
- Capable of working hands-on with flight hardware, test setups, and precision instruments.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs.
- Availability for occasional extended shifts.

Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN eligibility at AST SpaceMobile depends on your role falling within the USMCA professions list. Cross-reference your target job title against the list before applying. Telecommunications engineering and computer systems analyst roles are common fits, but your specific degree field must align directly with the position.
Target RF and satellite engineering openings
AST SpaceMobile's core work involves satellite network design, RF propagation, and space systems integration. Roles in those disciplines map cleanly to USMCA engineer categories. Focusing your search on those teams improves your odds of landing a position that supports TN admission without ambiguity over role classification.
Verify your wage offer against prevailing rates
Before finalizing your offer, run your job title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the offered salary meets or exceeds prevailing wage levels. AST SpaceMobile operates in competitive aerospace labor markets, and arriving at the border with a below-market offer can raise admissibility questions.
Use Migrate Mate to identify active TN employers
Search AST SpaceMobile's hiring history for TN-compatible roles using Migrate Mate, which surfaces employer sponsorship patterns by visa type. Knowing which departments have historically supported TN candidates helps you prioritize applications and approach recruiters with informed questions about their TN admission process.
Request a detailed offer letter before traveling
Canadian nationals present their offer letter directly at the port of entry, so the document must specify your job title, USMCA profession category, employer details, and employment duration. Ask AST SpaceMobile's HR team to confirm the letter format meets CBP requirements before you book your border appointment.
Prepare your O*NET profile as supporting evidence
If a CBP officer questions whether your role qualifies as a TN profession, an O*NET occupation profile describing the position's educational requirements strengthens your case. Pull the relevant O*NET entry for your job title and carry a printed copy alongside your offer letter and credentials.
AST SpaceMobile TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does AST SpaceMobile sponsor TN visas?
AST SpaceMobile supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican professionals in qualifying USMCA professions, particularly in engineering and technical disciplines tied to its satellite broadband work. The company issues offer letters that TN candidates present at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. There is no USCIS petition involved in the TN process.
Which departments at AST SpaceMobile typically support TN admission?
Engineering teams focused on RF systems, satellite communications, network operations, and software development are the most likely to hire TN-eligible professionals at AST SpaceMobile. These roles align well with USMCA engineer and computer systems analyst categories. Roles in project management or business operations may be harder to classify under the USMCA professions list.
How do I navigate the TN admission process when joining AST SpaceMobile?
Once AST SpaceMobile extends a job offer, request a TN support letter that specifies your profession category, job duties, and employment terms. Canadian nationals present this letter at a U.S. port of entry for same-day admission. Mexican nationals schedule a visa interview at a U.S. consulate and receive a TN visa stamp before traveling. USCIS is not involved in either route.
How long does TN admission take when starting at AST SpaceMobile?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission is typically granted the same day at the port of entry, assuming documentation is complete. Mexican nationals should expect several weeks for a consular appointment and visa issuance, depending on post workload. Building two to four weeks of buffer into your start date negotiation with AST SpaceMobile is a practical approach.
How do I find open TN-compatible roles at AST SpaceMobile?
Use Migrate Mate to search AST SpaceMobile's current openings filtered for TN-compatible positions. Focus on roles in satellite engineering, RF systems, and network infrastructure, where the USMCA profession match is clearest. When you contact a recruiter, confirm the role's USMCA profession category early to avoid advancing through a process for a position that won't support TN admission.
How does TN visa admission work at AST SpaceMobile?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from AST SpaceMobile, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
