Match your credentials to USMCA professions
City of Hope hires across research and clinical disciplines, but TN admission requires your role to fall within a named USMCA profession. Cross-reference your job title against the official USMCA professions list before applying to confirm your occupation qualifies for TN admission.
Secure a detailed offer letter early
City of Hope's offer letter is your primary TN document. Request that it specifies your USMCA profession category, describes your duties precisely, confirms full-time employment, and states your salary. Border officers and consular officers evaluate TN eligibility on the letter's detail, not just your credentials.
Align your degree field to the posted role
For science and research roles at City of Hope, TN requires a degree directly related to the position, not just any bachelor's-level credential. If your degree title differs from the role's field, prepare documentation showing coursework overlap before your border or consular appointment.
Search City of Hope roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter City of Hope job listings by visa type, so you're only reviewing roles where TN admission is supported. This saves significant time versus manually screening postings that may not accommodate Canadian or Mexican TN candidates in your target department.
Understand Canadian versus Mexican TN procedures
Canadian nationals present their City of Hope offer letter directly at a U.S. port of entry with no consular appointment needed. Mexican nationals must schedule a U.S. consulate appointment in advance. Build your start-date timeline around whichever procedure applies to your citizenship to avoid gaps.
Verify your wage against prevailing rates before negotiating
City of Hope's offered salary for your role must meet or exceed the prevailing wage for that occupation and location. Before accepting an offer, check the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the wage level for your specific job title and metropolitan area in California.
City of Hope TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does City of Hope sponsor TN visas?
City of Hope hires Canadian and Mexican nationals in TN-eligible roles across its research, clinical, and technical departments. It supports TN admission by issuing the required offer letters for qualifying USMCA professions. TN is not a petition-based process, so City of Hope does not file with USCIS on your behalf.
Which roles and departments at City of Hope typically support TN admission?
TN-eligible roles at City of Hope tend to cluster in scientific research, clinical laboratory work, nursing, pharmacology, and medical technology functions, all of which map to named USMCA professions. Administrative and general operations roles are less likely to qualify. Review each job posting's description carefully to confirm the stated profession aligns with a USMCA category.
How do I start the TN process after receiving an offer from City of Hope?
Once City of Hope issues your offer letter, Canadian nationals can proceed directly to a U.S. port of entry with their credentials and the letter. Mexican nationals schedule a U.S. consulate appointment and present equivalent documentation there. Neither pathway requires USCIS filing or a Labor Condition Application from City of Hope.
How long does TN admission at City of Hope typically take?
Canadian nationals approved at the border can begin work the same day. Mexican nationals must account for consulate appointment availability, which varies by location and season, plus a short processing window after the interview. Plan for at least several weeks from offer acceptance to work authorization when coordinating a start date with City of Hope's hiring team.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at City of Hope?
Migrate Mate lets you filter City of Hope job listings specifically for TN-supported roles, removing the guesswork of identifying which postings welcome Canadian or Mexican TN candidates. You can also review City of Hope's careers page and cross-reference posted titles against the USMCA professions list to assess eligibility before applying.
How does TN visa admission work at City of Hope?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from City of Hope, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
