Map your degree to USMCA professions
Before applying, cross-reference your credential against the USMCA TN professions list. Cleveland-Cliffs hires metallurgical, mechanical, and industrial engineers, so confirm your degree title and field align exactly with a listed occupation. A mismatch at the border means a denial, not a second chance.
Target Cleveland-Cliffs technical and engineering teams
Focus your applications on process engineering, quality assurance, and environmental compliance roles at Cleveland-Cliffs. These departments consistently need credentialed professionals in USMCA-eligible occupations. Roles in steelmaking operations are where TN-qualifying positions are most concentrated across their U.S. facilities.
Search verified TN employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to identify Cleveland-Cliffs roles that align with TN-eligible occupations. The platform surfaces employer hiring activity so you can target open positions where your credentials fit, rather than cold-applying and hoping the hiring team understands TN admission requirements.
Request a role-specific offer letter
Ask Cleveland-Cliffs HR to confirm the offer letter specifies your USMCA occupation category, the prearranged nature of employment, and your degree relevance to the role. A generic offer letter missing these elements creates delays at the port of entry or consulate, even when the job itself qualifies.
Prepare credential documentation before your border appointment
Canadian nationals present their TN package directly at a U.S. port of entry, so every document must be ready on the day. Gather your degree transcripts, any professional evaluations, and the Cleveland-Cliffs offer letter into a single organized package before you travel, not after.
Understand TN renewal timing at manufacturing employers
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments with no statutory limit on renewals. At a large manufacturer like Cleveland-Cliffs, renewals typically align with continued employment and an updated offer letter. Build your renewal timeline around project cycles, not just the expiration date on your I-94.
Cleveland-Cliffs TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Cleveland-Cliffs sponsor TN visas?
Cleveland-Cliffs supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican professionals in USMCA-listed occupations. The company issues offer letters that workers present at a U.S. port of entry or consulate. There is no USCIS petition involved. Eligible roles are typically in engineering, metallurgy, and technical operations tied to its steel manufacturing facilities.
Which roles at Cleveland-Cliffs are eligible for TN status?
TN eligibility at Cleveland-Cliffs is concentrated in USMCA-qualifying occupations such as metallurgical engineer, mechanical engineer, industrial engineer, chemist, and environmental scientist. Roles that require only a trade certification or general management experience without a degree in a listed profession generally do not qualify under the TN category.
How do I start the TN process with Cleveland-Cliffs as a Canadian national?
After Cleveland-Cliffs extends a job offer, request a formal offer letter that specifies your USMCA occupation, your qualifying degree, and the prearranged nature of employment. Canadian citizens then present this letter along with their credential documents directly at a U.S. land border or preclearance port. No advance USCIS filing is required.
How long does TN admission take when starting at Cleveland-Cliffs?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission is adjudicated on the spot at the port of entry, typically within a few hours if documents are complete. Mexican nationals must schedule a consular interview, which adds weeks depending on appointment availability. Migrate Mate can help you identify Cleveland-Cliffs openings and prepare your documentation before either process begins.
What should I bring to the port of entry for TN admission to work at Cleveland-Cliffs?
Bring your valid passport, the Cleveland-Cliffs offer letter specifying your USMCA occupation and degree requirement, official transcripts or a degree certificate, and any professional evaluation documents if your credential was issued outside North America. CBP officers verify that your degree directly supports the occupation listed in the offer letter, so the match must be explicit.
How does TN visa admission work at Cleveland-Cliffs?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Cleveland-Cliffs, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
