Match your credentials to USMCA professions
Cooley hires across legal, technology, and finance functions, but TN admission only covers specific USMCA-listed occupations. Before applying, cross-reference your role title against the official professions list using O*NET to confirm your position qualifies and your degree aligns with the defined requirements.
Target business operations and technology teams
Beyond attorneys, Cooley regularly brings on professionals in IT, finance, and business development. These roles can qualify under TN categories like computer systems analyst or accountant, so focus your applications on departments where your USMCA occupation maps cleanly to the posted job description.
Request a TN support letter early in the offer stage
Cooley's HR and legal teams are familiar with issuing offer letters for TN candidates, but you should flag your TN intent during the offer negotiation, not after signing. This gives the firm time to draft a letter that accurately describes your role, salary, and USMCA occupation category.
Verify your wage against prevailing rates before your border appointment
TN doesn't require an LCA, but officers at the port of entry can scrutinize whether your offered salary reflects legitimate employment. Run your role and location through the OFLC Wage Search to confirm Cooley's offer meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your occupation before you present your documents.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Cooley's active TN-eligible openings
Cooley posts roles across its U.S. offices, but not every listing signals TN readiness. Migrate Mate filters for employers with demonstrated visa support history, so you can prioritize applications to Cooley offices and teams where TN-eligible hiring is most active rather than applying broadly.
Prepare a degree equivalency letter for three-year programs
Canadian applicants with three-year bachelor's degrees sometimes face pushback at the port of entry when their credential doesn't obviously map to a U.S. four-year degree. A credential evaluation letter from a recognized organization documenting equivalency strengthens your TN packet and reduces the risk of secondary inspection at admission.
Cooley LLP TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Cooley LLP sponsor TN visas?
Yes. Cooley LLP supports TN admission for qualified Canadian and Mexican professionals by issuing offer letters that candidates present at the port of entry or U.S. consulate. Because TN is treaty-based under USMCA, Cooley doesn't file a petition with USCIS. The offer letter, along with your credentials and supporting documents, is what secures admission.
Which roles at Cooley LLP are typically eligible for TN admission?
Cooley's TN-eligible hiring tends to concentrate in legal support, technology, finance, and business operations. Roles such as computer systems analyst, accountant, and management consultant often map to USMCA-listed professions. Attorney positions may qualify under the lawyer category for candidates with a common-law degree. Each role must align with a specific USMCA occupation for TN to apply.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Cooley LLP offer?
Once Cooley extends an offer, notify HR that you intend to enter on TN status. Cooley's legal operations team will prepare a support letter describing your role, USMCA occupation category, and compensation. Canadian nationals present this packet directly at the port of entry. Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate before traveling. You don't need to involve USCIS unless you're requesting a change of status from inside the U.S.
How long does TN admission take when working with Cooley LLP?
For Canadian nationals, TN admission at the port of entry is typically same-day once your documents are in order. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate should expect a wait tied to appointment availability, which varies by location and season. Cooley's support letter preparation generally takes one to two weeks after your offer is finalized, so factor that into your start-date planning.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Cooley LLP?
Cooley posts openings across its U.S. offices, but individual listings rarely specify TN eligibility. Migrate Mate surfaces Cooley roles filtered by visa support history, helping you focus on positions and offices where TN-eligible hiring is most active. You can also search Cooley's careers page directly and ask during screening calls whether the role has been filled on TN status before.
How does TN visa admission work at Cooley LLP?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Cooley LLP, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
