Match your degree to USMCA professions
Ford's TN roles in vehicle engineering and software development require a degree that maps directly to an USMCA-listed occupation. Pull up the official professions list and confirm your credential aligns before applying, because a mismatch at the border is not recoverable on the same trip.
Target Ford's software and electrification teams
Ford's Model e and Pro divisions actively recruit engineers and computer scientists for connected vehicle and battery software work. These teams hire for roles that fall cleanly within USMCA occupation categories, giving you the strongest alignment between the job description and your TN eligibility.
Request a TN-ready offer letter early
Ford's offer letter must state your job title, USMCA occupation category, anticipated start date, and that the position is not permanent. Ask your recruiter to confirm the letter includes all four elements before your border appointment so you're not rescheduling over a missing line.
Use Migrate Mate to find open TN roles
Search Migrate Mate to filter Ford Motor Company jobs by TN eligibility based on DOL Labor Condition Application data. You'll see which roles and departments have supported TN admissions, so you can prioritize applications where your occupation category has already been validated by the employer.
Verify your wage against OFLC data
TN doesn't require a formal prevailing-wage filing, but Ford's offer must reflect compensation consistent with the role. Run your job title and Michigan location through OFLC Wage Search before the offer stage so you can identify any gap and address it before your border presentation.
Prepare your O*NET occupation profile
Border officers and Ford HR both reference occupation definitions when assessing TN eligibility. Download the O*NET profile for your specific role, highlight the degree requirements and core tasks, and bring it as a supporting document alongside your offer letter and transcripts.
Ford Motor Company TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Ford Motor Company sponsor TN visas?
Ford Motor Company supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying USMCA occupations. It issues offer letters for eligible roles across engineering, computer science, and technical research. TN is treaty-based, so Ford does not file a petition with USCIS. You present Ford's offer letter at a U.S. port of entry or consulate to obtain admission.
Which Ford departments most commonly hire TN professionals?
Ford's vehicle engineering, software development, and advanced research teams are the strongest TN pathways. The Model e electrification division and Ford Pro commercial vehicle group recruit heavily in computer science and engineering disciplines, which map directly to USMCA occupation categories. Manufacturing engineering and quality roles are also common entry points for TN candidates.
How do I start the TN process after receiving a Ford offer?
Once Ford issues a written offer letter confirming your USMCA occupation category, Canadians proceed directly to a U.S. land port of entry or airport with the letter, degree transcripts, and passport. Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate. USCIS is not involved in the process. The entire admission decision is made at the point of entry.
How long does TN admission take at the border with a Ford offer letter?
Canadian nationals are typically processed at the border the same day, with most admissions completed within a few hours at a land crossing or preclearance airport. Mexican nationals face a longer consular appointment timeline that varies by post. TN status is granted in increments and can be renewed, so your initial admission is not your only opportunity.
How do I find open TN roles at Ford Motor Company?
Use Migrate Mate to search Ford Motor Company's current openings filtered by TN eligibility. The platform surfaces roles where Ford has a demonstrated history of supporting TN admissions, based on DOL data, so you can focus your applications on positions with the strongest alignment to your USMCA occupation category and degree credentials.
How does TN visa admission work at Ford Motor Company?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Ford Motor Company, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
