Verify your role against USMCA
The TN category is limited to specific USMCA professions. Cross-reference your target role at Hall Booth Smith against the official USMCA professions list before applying. Legal support roles like lawyers and scientists appear explicitly, but not every legal services title qualifies.
Tailor credentials to legal services
Hall Booth Smith operates across litigation, healthcare law, and insurance defense. Match your academic credentials and professional experience to the specific practice area you're targeting. A credential evaluation confirming your degree equivalency strengthens your TN offer letter request considerably.
Request a detailed offer letter
Your TN admission at the border or consulate depends on Hall Booth Smith's offer letter specifying your professional category, duties, duration, and that the role requires your qualifying credential. Ask HR explicitly to reference the USMCA profession category matching your position.
Prepare your border entry documents early
Canadian nationals present TN documentation directly at a U.S. port of entry. Gather your offer letter, degree transcripts, professional licenses, and passport before your travel date. CBP officers review all supporting documentation on the spot, so gaps cause immediate denials.
