About HED
We are a team that is full of ideas, experience, creativity, passionate opinions, insatiable curiosity, uncompromising integrity, commitment, and skill. Our culture is about aspiration, embracing change and challenges, listening to (and learning from) each other, encouraging continual learning, and inspiring collective growth. As an inclusive, integrated architecture and engineering practice, we value the diversity of perspectives, experiences, abilities, and expertise that advance both the work we do, and the world we share.
Position Summary
As a Structural Engineer III at HED, you are a licensed professional with 4–8 years of experience, capable of taking a lead technical role on projects of increasing complexity and scope. With a deepening understanding of structural systems and interdisciplinary coordination, you apply strong engineering judgment, design acumen, and project experience to deliver resilient, code-compliant, and efficient structural solutions. You contribute to project execution, mentor junior staff, and help shape innovation and quality across the discipline. This role blends autonomy with collaboration, supporting HED’s mission to create a positive impact through design.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the structural design and documentation for building projects of moderate to large complexity, ensuring technical excellence and coordination across disciplines.
- Apply licensed engineering expertise to conduct structural analysis and design using tools such as RAM, RISA, ETABS, and Enercalc.
- Develop and oversee the creation of detailed engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports.
- Serve as a technical resource within project teams, assisting in establishing design direction, solving engineering challenges, and delivering integrated solutions.
- Coordinate closely with architects, MEP engineers, and civil consultants to ensure consistency and completeness of design across disciplines.
- Participate in and sometimes lead design meetings, client presentations, and internal coordination sessions.
- Perform construction administration duties including site visits, RFI and submittal responses, and field reports.
- Research and implement applicable codes, regulations, and standards to ensure structural compliance and safety.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NDS, and TMS.
- Support quality assurance and quality control efforts, including the review of documentation prepared by junior team members.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, designers, and interns in design processes, tools, and career development.
- Contribute to discipline-wide standards, tools, innovation initiatives, and research efforts.
- Engage in HED’s DWP process by tracking time, delegating tasks, and managing junior staff workload.
- Perform other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Discipline Leader or project lead.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering or similar related field, from an ABET/EAC accredited institution.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- 4-8 years of structural engineering experience in a professional setting.
- Proficiency in Revit (core) preferred.
- Proficiency in structural analysis tools such as RAM, RISA, ETABS, Enercalc or similar required.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, NDS/SDPWS, TMS 402).
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Clear communication abilities for working with internal teams, consultants, and clients.
- Demonstrated leadership in delivering coordinated and technically sound structural solutions.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in writing and verbally via phone, video conferencing, and in-person.
- Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
Work Environment
We embrace a hybrid model that promotes both autonomy and collaboration, including the freedom to work from home, with regular in-office days to connect with teammates and build culture. The office is a professional, open-space environment for collaborative and independent work.

Match your credentials to USMCA professions
TN eligibility depends on your specific occupation appearing on the USMCA professions list, not just your industry experience. Verify your role title against the list before applying. Architects and engineers at Harley Ellis Devereaux fall under well-established TN categories with clear credential requirements.
Target project-based teams within the firm
Harley Ellis Devereaux staffs multidisciplinary teams around architecture, structural engineering, and building systems. Roles tied to active project delivery are where TN-eligible hires most often land. Filtering your search by discipline rather than seniority improves your odds of finding a qualifying opening.
Use Migrate Mate to find active TN employers
Searching for firms that genuinely support TN candidates saves significant time. Migrate Mate surfaces employers in construction and real estate with verified TN hiring history, so you can focus on companies like Harley Ellis Devereaux that already understand the admission process.
Request a detailed offer letter from HR
Your offer letter is the primary document you present at the border or consulate. Ask Harley Ellis Devereaux's HR team to confirm your job title, duties, degree requirement, and employment start date. A vague letter is one of the most common reasons TN admission is delayed or questioned.
Prepare degree equivalency documentation in advance
Canadian and Mexican degree formats sometimes raise questions at the port of entry, particularly for three-year bachelor's degrees. Carry your official transcripts, a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S. or Canada, and documentation linking your major to the specific TN profession category.
Know your port-of-entry versus consulate options
Canadian citizens apply for TN status directly at a U.S. land border or preclearance airport, with no advance petition required. Mexican citizens apply at a U.S. consulate. Both paths require the same core documents, but timelines differ. USCIS processes consulate appointments separately from border admissions.
Harley Ellis Devereaux TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Harley Ellis Devereaux sponsor TN visas?
Harley Ellis Devereaux supports TN admission for qualifying Canadian and Mexican professionals by issuing offer letters for eligible roles. The firm does not file a petition with USCIS because TN is treaty-based admission under USMCA, not an employer-sponsored visa. You present the offer letter yourself at the border or U.S. consulate.
Which roles at Harley Ellis Devereaux typically qualify for TN?
Roles in architecture, civil and structural engineering, mechanical engineering, and related technical disciplines align most closely with USMCA professions. These are core functions at Harley Ellis Devereaux given its focus on building design and construction management. Your specific job title must correspond to a named profession on the USMCA list for TN eligibility.
How do I start the TN process after receiving an offer from Harley Ellis Devereaux?
Once you have an offer letter from Harley Ellis Devereaux that specifies your role, duties, and degree requirement, you apply at a U.S. port of entry if you're Canadian, or at a U.S. consulate if you're Mexican. No USCIS petition is required. You'll also need your degree credentials and any supporting documentation showing your qualifications for the specific TN category.
How long does TN admission take at Harley Ellis Devereaux?
Canadian citizens applying at a port of entry typically receive a decision the same day, often within a few hours. Mexican citizens applying at a consulate face longer timelines depending on appointment availability and administrative processing. Harley Ellis Devereaux's offer letter does not affect the admission timeline, which is controlled entirely by the border officer or consular officer.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at Harley Ellis Devereaux?
Migrate Mate lets you filter for employers in the construction and real estate sector with TN hiring history, making it easier to identify roles at firms like Harley Ellis Devereaux that already support TN candidates. Once you find a relevant opening, confirm that the job title maps to a USMCA profession and request an offer letter that documents the qualifying details before your admission appointment.
How does TN visa admission work at Harley Ellis Devereaux?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Harley Ellis Devereaux, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
