Match your credentials to USMCA professions
Before applying, verify your occupation appears on the USMCA TN professions list and that your degree field directly matches. Johnson Controls engineering and management roles often require a degree in a specific discipline, not just any bachelor's degree. Mismatched credentials are the most common TN denial trigger.
Target Johnson Controls's engineering and technical divisions
Focus your search on Johnson Controls's HVAC, fire and security, and building automation teams, where TN-eligible titles like mechanical engineer and electrical engineer appear most consistently. General business or operations roles are less likely to map cleanly to a recognized USMCA profession category.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm TN employer history
Before investing time in an application, check whether Johnson Controls has a track record of supporting TN admissions in your target role type. Migrate Mate surfaces employer-level data so you can see which occupations align with their hiring patterns before you reach the offer stage.
Request a detailed offer letter covering all TN requirements
Ask your Johnson Controls recruiter to confirm the offer letter specifies your job title, professional capacity, and that the role requires your specific degree. Port of entry officers and consular officers scrutinize these letters closely, and a vague letter can result in a TN refusal even with valid credentials.
Prepare for Canadian border entry versus Mexican consular processing
Canadian nationals can present their Johnson Controls offer letter directly at a U.S. land port of entry or preclearance facility for same-day TN admission. Mexican nationals must schedule a consular appointment, which adds several weeks to the timeline. Plan your start date around whichever process applies to your citizenship.
Clarify TN renewal timing with your Johnson Controls manager
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments with no statutory limit on renewals, but your authorization is tied to continuous employment at Johnson Controls. Confirm renewal timelines with your manager well before expiry, since a gap in employment or a role change can affect your TN status eligibility.
Johnson Controls TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor TN visas?
Yes, Johnson Controls supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible USMCA professions. The company issues offer letters that TN candidates use at the border or consulate. Johnson Controls does not file a petition with USCIS for TN, since TN is a treaty-based admission rather than an employer-sponsored petition process.
Which roles at Johnson Controls typically qualify for TN status?
Roles in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer systems analysis, and management consulting are the most common TN-eligible titles at Johnson Controls. These map directly to recognized USMCA professions. Positions in HVAC design, building automation systems, and fire protection engineering also appear regularly in their manufacturing and technology divisions.
How do I apply for a TN role at Johnson Controls as a Canadian or Mexican national?
Apply through Johnson Controls's careers site and indicate your TN eligibility during the screening process. Once you receive a job offer, Johnson Controls will provide a support letter confirming your role, qualifications, and employment terms. Canadian nationals present this at a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals use it to support a consular visa application.
How long does the TN process take at Johnson Controls?
Canadian nationals can often secure TN admission at the border on the same day they present their offer letter, making the timeline as short as a few days from offer to start. Mexican nationals should allow several weeks for a U.S. consular appointment. Neither route involves USCIS processing times, since TN does not require a petition.
How do I find open TN-eligible jobs at Johnson Controls?
Search Johnson Controls's careers page filtering by engineering and technical roles, then cross-reference those titles against the USMCA professions list to confirm TN eligibility. Migrate Mate also lets you search for Johnson Controls openings filtered by visa type, so you can identify roles where TN admission is a realistic path before you apply.
How does TN visa admission work at Johnson Controls?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Johnson Controls, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
