Align your degree to USMCA professions
Timken's TN hires concentrate in engineering and scientific roles. Before applying, verify your specific degree field maps to a named USMCA profession like Engineer or Chemist, since a general science degree won't satisfy the requirement if the job title doesn't match.
Target Timken's precision engineering divisions
Timken's core business spans bearings, drive systems, and industrial motion, so roles in mechanical, materials, and manufacturing engineering see the most consistent TN hiring activity. Focusing your search on those divisions puts you in front of hiring managers already comfortable with TN admission.
Request a detailed offer letter before crossing
CBP officers assess your TN eligibility at the port of entry based entirely on Timken's offer letter. Make sure it specifies your exact job title, the qualifying USMCA profession category, your anticipated wage, and the employment period before you travel to avoid a secondary inspection or denial.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your role and Timken's work location before salary discussions. Arriving at the border with an offer below the area wage for your occupation can raise admissibility questions, even though TN has no formal LCA requirement.
Use Migrate Mate to find Timken's open TN roles
Search Migrate Mate to filter Timken job listings by visa type and confirm which roles are actively open to TN candidates. Seeing current openings by department helps you prioritize applications toward the engineering and technical positions where Timken's TN hiring is most consistent.
Prepare your credentials package for Canadian border entry
Canadian nationals apply for TN directly at a U.S. port of entry, so bring your degree transcripts, professional credentials, and Timken's offer letter in a single organized packet. CBP officers decide on the spot, and incomplete documentation is the leading reason for same-day deferrals at manufacturing-sector crossings.
Timken TN Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Timken sponsor TN visas?
Yes, Timken supports TN admission for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible USMCA professions. Because TN is treaty-based admission rather than an employer petition, Timken's role is to issue a qualifying offer letter. The worker then presents that letter at a U.S. port of entry or consulate to be admitted in TN status.
Which Timken roles and departments typically support TN admission?
Timken's TN hiring is concentrated in engineering and technical functions, particularly mechanical, materials, and manufacturing engineering roles tied to its bearings and industrial motion product lines. Research and development, quality assurance, and process engineering positions also align with USMCA-listed professions that Timken regularly hires into.
How do I start the TN process with a Timken job offer?
Once Timken extends an offer, request a formal offer letter that specifies your job title, the corresponding USMCA profession category, your wage, and the employment period. Canadian nationals take that letter to a U.S. port of entry. Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate abroad. USCIS is not involved in either process.
How long does TN admission take when joining Timken?
Canadian nationals with complete documentation are typically admitted the same day at the port of entry. Mexican nationals applying at a U.S. consulate face variable wait times depending on appointment availability at their local post. TN status is granted in two-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely as long as Timken employment continues.
How do I find open TN-eligible positions at Timken?
Use Migrate Mate to filter Timken's current job listings by visa type and identify which openings are accessible to TN candidates. Cross-reference each role's requirements against the USMCA professions list and review the O*NET occupation profile for your target job title to confirm your degree field satisfies the specialty requirement before applying.
How does TN visa admission work at Timken?
TN status is granted under the USMCA treaty — there is no USCIS petition or Labor Condition Application required. Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry with an offer letter from Timken, while Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate. The role must match one of the professions listed in USMCA Appendix 1603.D.1. Migrate Mate filters TN job listings to roles that fall within the eligible profession list.
