Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Nursing Jobs at University of South Florida Jobs
Verify Your Credentials Through CGFNS Early
Foreign-educated nurses must have their credentials evaluated by CGFNS before USF can move forward with any visa petition. Start this process months before applying, as report timelines vary and delays will push back your start date.
Target USF Health's Clinical Education Postings
USF's nursing openings are often tied to its health sciences and academic medical programs, not just hospital operations. Filter your search for roles within USF Health, where visa sponsorship for specialty nursing positions is most consistently offered.
Understand Where NCLEX Licensure Fits the Timeline
Florida Board of Nursing licensure must be in hand before your appointment start date, but USCIS does not require it at petition filing. Confirm with your USF HR contact which stage your license verification needs to clear.
Use Migrate Mate to Identify Actively Sponsoring Roles
Not every USF nursing posting includes explicit sponsorship language. Use Migrate Mate to surface roles where USF has an active sponsorship history for nursing functions, so you focus your applications where you have the strongest chance.
Ask HR Directly About EB-3 Scheduling Order Filing
For permanent residence, USF typically pursues PERM labor certification through DOL before filing an I-140. Ask the HR team whether they file concurrently with the I-140 or in stages, since the sequence affects how soon your priority date is established.
Time Your Application Around USF's Academic Hiring Cycles
USF's nursing recruitment often ramps up in late winter and early summer to align with clinical program calendars. Submitting your application outside these windows can mean longer review times and reduced urgency from hiring managers.

Find Nursing at University of South Florida JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of South Florida sponsor H-1B visas for Nursings?
Yes, USF sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying nursing roles, particularly those tied to its academic health sciences programs where a specialty occupation determination can be supported. Registered nursing positions with specialized clinical or instructional responsibilities are most likely to meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard. Your role must require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field, which USF's HR and legal teams assess on a case-by-case basis.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at University of South Florida?
Applications go through USF's official careers portal at usf.edu, where nursing roles are posted under the USF Health division. You can also find actively sponsoring nursing openings at USF through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles with documented sponsorship history. Tailor your application to highlight licensure status, any CGFNS evaluation, and clinical specialization relevant to the specific posting.
Which visa types does USF commonly use for Nursing roles?
USF uses H-1B most frequently for specialty nursing positions that meet the degree requirement threshold. J-1 visas appear for exchange visitor programs in clinical training contexts. For permanent sponsorship, USF pursues the EB-3 pathway through PERM labor certification with DOL, followed by an I-140 petition. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nurses in qualifying occupations. F-1 OPT is an option for nursing graduates in their authorized work period.
What qualifications does USF expect for international Nursing candidates?
USF generally requires a current Florida RN license or eligibility to obtain one, a CGFNS credential evaluation for internationally educated nurses, and either a BSN or an advanced degree depending on the role. Clinical specializations in areas like oncology, critical care, or perioperative nursing strengthen your application significantly. Roles within USF's academic nursing programs may also require graduate-level preparation or prior teaching experience.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at USF?
From offer acceptance to H-1B approval, the process typically runs three to six months under standard USCIS processing. USF must file before your intended start date, accounting for time to prepare the petition and any requests for evidence. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, USF would need to register you in the April lottery for an October 1 start. Cap-exempt educational institutions like USF can file outside the lottery, which removes the October start date restriction entirely.
