Verify your NCLEX and state licensure early
Indiana nursing licensure through the Professional Licensing Agency is a hard requirement before Purdue can onboard you. Start the NCLEX transfer or endorsement process before your offer stage so licensure delays don't stall your petition filing.
Target Purdue's campus health and occupational units
Purdue's Student Health Center and occupational health programs are the primary nursing employers on campus. Roles there tend to align with specialty occupation requirements for H-1B sponsorship more cleanly than general support positions.
Search open roles through Migrate Mate first
Purdue posts nursing openings across multiple channels, but filtering for sponsorship-eligible roles saves time. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Purdue nursing listings confirmed for visa sponsorship before applying directly.
Confirm your credential evaluation covers nursing specifically
USCIS requires that your foreign nursing degree maps directly to a U.S. bachelor's in nursing for H-1B classification. A general academic credential evaluation is not enough. Use an evaluator that produces a course-by-course report for healthcare professions.
Account for DOL prevailing wage in your salary negotiation
Purdue must pay the DOL prevailing wage for your nursing classification and location before USCIS approves your H-1B. Review the DOL Foreign Labor Certification Data Center wage findings for your specific role level in the Lafayette, Indiana area before negotiating.

Find Nursing at Purdue University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Purdue University sponsor H-1B visas for Nursings?
Yes, Purdue University sponsors H-1B visas for nursing roles that meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in nursing or a directly related field. Roles in the Student Health Center and occupational health units are the most common pathways. Purdue's status as a large public university also gives it experience managing USCIS filings across departments.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at Purdue University?
Applications go through Purdue's official careers portal at careers.purdue.edu. Search by department or job category and filter for healthcare or nursing roles. Include your RN license number and state of licensure in your application materials. If you need visa sponsorship, confirm that detail in your cover letter so recruiters can route your file to the appropriate HR contacts from the start.
Which visa types does Purdue University commonly use for Nursing roles?
Purdue sponsors H-1B visas for qualified registered nurses in specialty occupation roles, and supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through the PERM labor certification process for longer-term hires. The university also accepts F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing nursing practicums or early-career roles, and TN visa status for Canadian and Mexican nurses who qualify under USMCA professional categories.
What qualifications does Purdue University expect for Nursing positions?
Most nursing roles at Purdue require an active Indiana RN license, a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN), and relevant clinical experience. Specialty or senior roles may require an MSN or specific certifications such as COHN for occupational health positions. Purdue's university health setting means experience in ambulatory care, preventive health, or student health environments is a meaningful differentiator during screening.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Nursing role at Purdue?
For H-1B sponsorship, expect at least six to nine months from offer to work authorization if you're subject to the annual cap lottery, which runs each April for an October 1 start. Cap-exempt scenarios are faster. PERM-based Green Card cases typically take two to four years depending on your country of birth and priority date. Align your offer acceptance timing with these federal windows to avoid gaps in work authorization.
