Construction Manager Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction manager job in Chicago?
The strongest path into Chicago construction management runs through the city's active commercial real estate, infrastructure, and institutional sectors. General contractors, development firms, and the city's major public works programs concentrate hiring in the Loop, West Loop, and North Side corridors. Candidates who combine field experience with project scheduling software skills and a working knowledge of Chicago building codes tend to move through the hiring process faster than those with only one or the other.
Which companies hire construction managers in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring construction managers in Chicago include Rush University Medical Center, ARCO a Family of Construction Companies, and Turner & Townsend Pty Limited, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's market includes a strong mix of regional general contractors, national developers with local offices, and public agencies overseeing city and transit infrastructure projects.
Are there remote construction manager jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though they are rare since most construction manager work requires on-site presence during active builds. About 13% of construction manager openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, skewing toward roles focused on pre-construction planning, estimating, or owner-side program management rather than field supervision.
How can I get a construction manager job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is starting as a project coordinator or assistant project manager with a regional general contractor or subcontractor working on the city's steady pipeline of commercial and residential builds. Chicago's large union training programs through the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters and local trade associations also place early-career candidates into site roles that build toward management. A degree in construction management or civil engineering from a local program like Illinois Tech strengthens applications significantly.
Which industries hire the most construction managers in Chicago?
The sectors hiring the most construction managers in Chicago are Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's ongoing investment in transit expansion, Loop commercial redevelopment, and large-scale mixed-use projects in neighborhoods like Fulton Market drives consistent demand across those sectors.
