RedCloud seeks a Senior Cybersecurity Lab Consultant to support immediate client operations.
Location: Leesburg, VA
Overview:
The Senior Cybersecurity Lab Consultant will lead the physical build-out, administration, and sustained operation of a critical, isolated OT/IT test and validation environment. This role is essential for accelerating the security and operational resilience of our client’s global data center fleet by providing a dedicated space for vulnerability management, new technology evaluation, and process certification for Operational Technology (OT)
systems like BMS/PMS/SCADA.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in both IT (Servers,
Networking, Virtualization) and Industrial Control Systems (PLCs,
HMIs), coupled with hands-on experience in managing a
high-availability lab or data center environment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The Lab Manager will be the primary executor or facilitator for
several phases of the lab's life cycle, managing asset deployment,
asset configurations when required, and process development. Areas of
facilitation include physical access, maintenance cycles, and local
site coordination with Operations personnel.
- Lab Build-Out and Infrastructure Management (Phases 1-4)
- Physical Infrastructure: Collaborate with facilities/external vendors
on the physical preparation of the lab space, including:- Ensuring the installation of KVM/Remote Access Infrastructure.
- OT/IT Hardware Acquisition & Setup: Receive, inventory, rack, and
power on all procured equipment, including: Bare-metal servers (Legacy SCADA, Virtualization clusters). - Industrial Control Systems (ICS) hardware like PLCs and Edge Device Emulation.
- Install and configure required backup solutions.
- Lab Environment Realism: Lead the physical setup of simulated
industrial networks and workspaces:- Install and configure network equipment to create isolated network
segments required for OT simulation. - Procure, set up, and maintain physical lab tools, industrial
workbenches, and HMI/Client Testing Stations.

- Process Development and Operational Readiness (Phases 5 & 7)
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Design, document, and maintain
essential lab operating procedures:- Follow (or develop) a rapid Turn-Up Process for provisioning new VMs
or bare-metal servers from pre-built images. - Assist in documenting detailed Vulnerability Remediation Workflows
(Patching Process) for all lab assets (OS, application, firmware).

- Security & Compliance: Ensure the lab meets internal physical and
logical security requirements:- Collaborate with Network Engineering to ensure the Network Isolation
Zone for identified ICS network connectivity is correctly provisioned.

- Transition to Active Support: Document daily tasks, most common
tickets, “smart hands” requests, network and server configurations,
maintenance cycles, documented application of security and feature
updates, list of all Bugs opened for the lab. - Define and manage the transition to a sustainable, active support
model, replacing ad-hoc testing with structured requests.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Design, document, and maintain
- Stakeholder Engagement and Execution (Phase 6)
- Hands-On Execution: Function as the primary "Remote Hands" resource,
executing physical and logical tasks for remote stakeholders (6.3.1). - Environment Management: Facilitate the execution and refinement of the
full environment Build/Destroy Cycle to ensure the lab can rapidly
support diverse testing needs. - Collaboration: Support internal teams by assisting with technology
evaluation pilots, deployment tests, and software installation.
- Hands-On Execution: Function as the primary "Remote Hands" resource,
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science,
Information Technology, or a related field, OR equivalent practical
experience. - 5+ years of professional experience in an IT, data center, or
industrial/OT lab environment. - Proven hands-on experience with:
- Coordinating Industrial Control Systems (ICS/OT): PLCs, HMIs, SCADA
environments. - Networking Fundamentals: ability to troubleshoot network connectivity
issues and understanding of TCP/IP, routing, and switching. - IT Infrastructure: Server hardware, racking/cabling, power
distribution, and cooling systems. - Virtualization: Experience with administering or deploying workloads
on virtualization platforms such as VMWare. - Operating Systems: proficiency in Linux command-line interface for
system administration, troubleshooting, and scripting. - Hardware Troubleshooting: ability to diagnose and resolve hardware
faults in servers, network devices, and other IT/OT equipment.
- Coordinating Industrial Control Systems (ICS/OT): PLCs, HMIs, SCADA
- Experience as a system administrator or technician in a datacenter or
industrial plant setting. - Strong understanding of network segmentation principles and protocols
used in OT/ICS networks (e.g., Modbus, BACnet). - Experience writing detailed SOPs, Runbooks, and Change Management documentation.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts in an OT context (e.g.,
vulnerability management, network visibility tools like Claroty). - Industrial Control System (ICS) Platforms: Practical experience with
programming or maintaining common PLC/HMI platforms (e.g.,Rockwell,
Schneider Electric) and understanding of their configurations. - Network Vendor Experience: Hands-on experience configuring and
troubleshooting network devices from major vendors like Cisco,
Juniper, or Arista.
