This position directs, plans, and coordinates all laboratory services in support of quality laboratory service and the hospital's mission of patient care.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (Medical Laboratory Science) or related field.

Certification as a Medical Technologist (Medical Laboratory Scientist) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT).

Must possess current license as required by state board where services will be provided:
- WV: Medical Laboratory Scientist License
- PA: No State License Required
- OH: No State License Required
Experience:
- Five (5) years Laboratory experience with three (3) years' experience in a supervisory or management position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Management or related field.

Provides medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products and services by establishing specimen preparation procedures; developing and implementing analytical procedures; evaluating laboratory information; consulting with pathologists; reporting results according to protocols mandated by the Hospital and Accrediting Agencies.

Maintains medical laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service and repair.

Operates department within approved budget or provides appropriate justification.

Maintains laboratory productivity by monitoring workload; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustments.

Maintains quality results by participating in the hospital Quality assurance program; consulting with pathologists, performing proficiency surveys; reviewing quality control and quality assurance programs; making adjustments in policy and procedures; generating reports; maintaining records.

Maintains medical laboratory information system by identifying information needs and problems; recommending improvements, establishing priorities; writing user manuals; training employees; maintaining security and confidentiality.

Implements new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation and procedures by investigating alternatives; preparing proposals; monitoring progress.

Oversees and participates in the orientation, training, and continuing education of the staff (departmental and interdepartmental) and other health related personnel.

Maintains staff by counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring and appraising job performance.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; attends webinars on Laboratory subjects; participates in professional societies.

Complies with state and professional continuing education licensure requirements by providing continuing education opportunities and in-services on new equipment.

Formulates plans and implements change to maintain and improve productivity, by conducting and participating in staff meetings, committees, task forces, projects and communications.

May direct and monitor the instruction, supervision, and evaluation of students of the School of Medicine Medical Technology Program, and other health related fields.
