The Staff Attorney will support and implement all aspects of Life.Church’s legal strategies including general legal liability, data privacy and technology, and insurance coverages and advise internal stakeholders and Life.Church leadership accordingly. The Staff Attorney will utilize their skillset to deliver outcomes that align with the direction of the Legal Team to further Life.Church’s mission and to reach people for Christ.
The Director is responsible for collaborating with their CTL/CML to cast vision, provide direction, and lead ministry efforts within their area of influence to outcomes that further Life.Church’s mission and reach people for Christ.
What You'll Do
General Legal Advice and Leadership
- Equip and advise generally on a variety of legal and liability matters.
- Leverage legal and non-legal research tools to thoroughly analyze proposed ministry initiatives and various complex legal matters impacting the organization.
- Partner with Central Team Leader of Legal to propose creative solutions to accomplish legal requirements while empowering innovation.
- Identify tools and resources—including technology solutions and external advisors—to streamline legal processes and strengthen relationships with other Life.Church teams.
- Apply critical thinking and exercise of good judgment in making recommendations on various legal and quasi-legal matters.
Ensure Data Privacy and Intellectual Property Compliance
- Lead efforts to understand and respond to global and local data privacy and technology laws, including intellectual property.
- Research and stay up to date on relevant national and international data privacy laws, as well as new and upcoming regulations governing technology development and ownership.
- Assist with inquiries and matters relating to data privacy practices, withdrawals of consent, data subject access requests, and related rights.
- Monitor the industry landscape to keep visibility on legal trends and identify new and innovative tools for legal compliance and processes.
Oversee General Risk Mitigation Initiatives
- Supervise the purchase and management of property, liability, auto, and worker’s compensation insurance for the organization with input from team leadership.
- Analyze insurance policies to propose creative solutions to legal liability.
- Contribute to the creation of safety management policies, plans, and training.
- Provide support for direct reports through coaching and setting expectations.
- Provide vision, direction, and resources for implementing key strategies.
Skills Needed to Succeed
- Ability to self‐motivate, make independent decisions, and problem-solve with innovation.
- Effective at multi‐tasking and time management to meet deadlines while remaining flexible and open to change.
- Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills to foster partnerships.
- Strong leadership skills and understanding of developing and guiding others.
- Juris Doctor with a license in good standing to practice law.
- 2+ years of relevant work experience.
