About the Role
Behind every mentoring match is an organization that runs on sound financial stewardship, and that’s where you come in. As Director of Finance and Operations, you’ll serve as the primary financial steward for the agency, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. You’ll oversee accounting, federal grant compliance, internal controls, investment account oversight, and facilities operations while providing timely analysis that supports executive and board decision-making. Your work ensures the agency’s fiscal practices and operational systems stay aligned with our mission, values, and long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the agency’s fiscal functions, including the annual budget, monthly financial close, and financial analysis that supports the CEO, Board, and senior leadership
- Oversee OJJ federal grant accounting, ensuring expenditures align with grant budgets and reporting requirements throughout each grant period
- Prepare the agency for its annual financial statement audit and serve as primary contact with auditors, coordinating IRS filings including Form 990 and Form 5500
- Manage cash flow projections, banking relationships, and routine financial operations including accounts payable, payroll, and credit card reconciliation
- Oversee building operations and vendor relationships, keeping facilities running smoothly and within budget
- Evaluate insurance coverage, partnership agreements, and new programming through a risk management and youth safety lens
- Serve as staff liaison and leader for the Board Finance Committee, supporting members with timely, accurate materials
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
- Five or more years of progressive nonprofit accounting or finance experience
- Demonstrated experience managing grant financial compliance, including federal grant requirements
- Knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and internal controls
- Ability to translate complex financial information into clear analysis for both financial and non-financial audiences
- Strong judgment, discretion, and accuracy when managing multiple projects and deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with Sage or comparable nonprofit accounting software
- A vehicle, valid driver’s license, and minimum state-required automobile insurance
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or advanced degree
- Experience managing facilities, operations, and vendor relationships in an office or multi-service environment
- Familiarity with payroll systems, benefits administration processes, and HR information systems
