Position Purpose:
Develop product design solutions within various departments including hard-lines, decor, and building materials while successfully navigating complex patent landscapes and providing industry leading thought and design deliverables. Serve internal clients by understanding their goals and partnering with them on product designs to improve business results. Balance the relationship between product properties, design elements, business goals, marketing demands, consumer trends, technology and environmental issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- 20% Develop 'new to the world' product designs
- 20% Develop designs for existing products to improve on the design or reduce cost taking into consideration current patent landscape
- 20% Create original designs for Decor market
- 30% Support the consistent implementation of existing visual brand languages
- 10% Support industrial design projects or initiatives as required
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
Position reports to Industrial Design Manager
No direct reports.
Travel Requirements:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience creating and managing visual brand languages (VBLs)
- Evidence of professional success (e.g. design awards, articles, reviews, patents)
- Strong mechanical design skills

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Competencies:
- A portfolio demonstrating the ability to succeed in a consumer product market and produce elegant design solutions
- Proficient sketching skills (digital sketching skills a plus)
- Proficient in rapid visualization of ideas
- Strong Photoshop rendering or similar deliverables
- Advanced Solidworks modeling and 3D rendering skills
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop
- Experience working with multiple product categories in parallel
- Ability to work in a cross functional team environment
