INTRODUCTION
The Master Mechanic provides technical support for all maintenance required for plant machinery and equipment. In some instances, Engineering design and construction of new facilities, or alteration or modification of existing facilities are involved. The incumbent participates in such specific activities as design and evaluation process equipment and preparation of specifications for bids and proposals.
This position performs engineering and technical leadership procedures providing preventive maintenance and facilities changes to accomplish optimum operation of machines, tooling, equipment, facilities, quality and timely production.
This position will serve our Water Heating Division, located in Montgomery, AL.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the diverse activities of all the maintenance foremen regardless of shift.
- Establish departmental procedures and policies for approval by higher management and direct the application of corporate policies and procedures to ensure efficient functioning of the maintenance department.
- Interpret directives, specifications and engineering drawings, and disseminate other management information as required.
- Direct the planning and coordination of all work between plants or departments so as to promote cooperation between groups.
- Be a resource to other plants and functions within the division.
- Responsible for maintaining a well-trained maintenance force and for doing the planning necessary to assure the availability of materials and tools to meet maintenance schedules.
- Through subordinates, control quantity and quality of work, departmental costs, schedules, safety, good housekeeping, wiring conditions, waste and salvage, job training and equipment for efficient operation of maintenance department.
- Establish and maintain good employee-management relations through proper training and instruction of subordinates, adherence to safety regulations, and initiate handling of complaints and grievances.
- Check and approve merit and promotional increases for foremen. Periodically review the performance of foremen and make recommendations for salary increases.
- Represent company to outside vendors or company representatives.
- Plan the implementation of complex production processes and recommends or develops improvements of special hydraulic, pneumatic and electromechanical equipment. The incumbent monitors and controls installation progress, establishes estimates of time, material and labor costs on projects submitted. Examples of complex projects are those involving machine tool installation, furnaces, conveyor systems, or plant rearrangements. Project management methods and reports are used to monitor the projects.
- Participate in productivity improvements by investigation, analyzing and estimating cost reduction in proposed major changes involving department layouts, methods and operation sequence, machine utilization and the introduction of automation.
- Participate in matrix organization project teams in leadership or contributory roles. He/she is responsible with the team for schedules, project effectiveness, timely management reporting and cost control.
- Perform liaison role between other functions of the company as it affects manufacturing. The incumbent facilitates the exchange of information and resolves issues in product process capability, information systems and facility issues.
- Reports to the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma/GED
Background/Experience:
- Must have a minimum of 5-years Industrial Maintenance work experience.
- Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology preferred.
- Must have a working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment, and the procedures and processes used to install or repair the equipment.
- Must understand and be able to use a personal computer equipped with Microsoft Office and Maintenance software.
- Must be able to use and explain the use of various hand tools, power tools and measuring devices such as: Calipers, Micrometers, Multi-Meter, and standard Measuring instruments.
- Must be able to operate a forklift and associated lift equipment.
