Position Summary
Performs journeyman level work and installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.
Maintains the facilities, with a focus on electrical work. Adheres to expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values.
Major Areas of Responsibility/Essential Function % of Time

Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.

Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components and repairs.
- Inspects systems and electrical parts to detect hazards, defects, and need for adjustments or repair.
- Maintains and repairs or replaces wiring, equipment and fixtures and removes unused wiring.
- Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeter, voltmeter, and oscilloscope.
- Readies and assembles electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures.

Climbs ladder to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures. 60%

Performs preventative maintenance on facility equipment.

Determines the equipment needed to perform specific job.
- Adheres to procedure for specific task.
- Performs tasks according to procedure.
- Verifies proper functionality of the piece of equipment.
- Follows through on inoperative equipment, to include generating a work order and ensuring that work order is completed.

Maintains 95% completion rating on assigned PM’s. 15%

Performs routine repair work.

Determines the equipment needed to perform specific repair.
- Performs repair work.
- Documents work performed on work order and presents to clerical support staff for record keeping.

Identifies other repair needs and generates work orders. 10%

Operates and maintains boiler room.

Monitors equipment.
- Identifies problems and takes next steps.

Communicates to next shift. 1%

Demonstrates competency of building systems.
- Knowledgeable of medical gas systems.
- Knowledgeable of heating and cooling systems:
- Chiller start-up
- Boiler start-up
- Air handle unit start-up
- Monitors and sets up negative pressure rooms.

Knowledgeable in utility systems. 9%

Adheres to all safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures.

Attends required safety programs.
- Appropriately and consistently uses the personal protective equipment required of the job.
- Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other emergency situations.
- Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture.
- Asks for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved.
- Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits.
Education and Experience
-
High School plus specialized training 5 – 7 years (min. 6 months – 2 years): Education and/or experience sufficient to obtain electrician license.

0 – 2 years: Education and/or experience sufficient to obtain electrician license. Experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities required
Intermediate language, basic math, high reasoning ability. Personal computer. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical inclination.
Certification/Licensure Required for Job
Electrician license. If driving, valid Iowa driver’s license. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI) within 6 months of hire.
Category I– Performs tasks which involve exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue.
Category II– Performs tasks which involve no exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue, but may perform unplanned Category I tasks.
