1st shift, on call as required. Hybrid with travel within the Charolette region.
Pay Range
$47.50 - $71.25
Major Responsibilities:
Maintains within established levels, the technical performance of network systems supporting the enterprise, which includes hospitals, medical office buildings, physician practices, administrative and financial offices, and all support facilities.
Monitors system performance and takes appropriate action to ensure the best performance and utilization of network resources. Participates in localized problem determination and resolution. Escalates appropriately.
Supports the networking systems, working with multiple IS departments and vendors to provide stable and reliable network connectivity. Demonstrates detailed knowledge of the network infrastructure for which they provide administration and develops a working understanding of the inter-relationships between applications and network impact.
Recommends, coordinates, and implements moderate- to high-risk network changes and designed network solutions (switches, routers, and system hardware) independently to mission critical areas while following established designs and configurations previously developed.
Works proficiently in both a team setting and independently, assuming a leadership role on medium- to large-sized projects and within the team. Assures technical development of other team members through sharing knowledge and experience.
Works well under pressure, able to multi-task. Understands the basic concept of project management - developing and executing project plans for network system implementations.
Understands and follows change management processes.
Follows and defines protocols for working with customers and appropriately balances needs and resources. Resolves complex (Tier 2) help desk tickets and network problems. Escalates complex network connectivity issues to vendors or Tier 3 as required. Tracks and trends issues and drives resolution.
Physically and logically install components (routers, switches, physical cabling, UPS, etc) into a single unified network.
Defines network infrastructure requirements and recommendations for appropriate solutions. Researches, provides input into recommendations and justifies various hardware and software purchases and participates in determining hardware, software, and administrative standards and procedures.
Develops and implements process improvement initiatives within Information Technology.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
Cisco Certified Network Profession (CCNP) or higher within first year of hiring
Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Computer Science or related.
Experience Required:
At least 5 years experience installing and supporting sophisticated information systems, preferably in a health care environment utilizing client/server technologies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Work is subject to high-level visibility through exposure to Advocate Health administration.
This position will require high degree of proficiency in verbal and written communications.
Ability to effectively handle customer contacts and problem resolution.
Time Management - Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently, manage priorities, and complete assignments in a timely manner and meet productivity standards.
Strong ability to work independently, exercise judgment and creativity in analyzing and solving unusual problems or situations that arise.
Knowledge of network protocols, routing protocols, wireless protocols and broadband.
Knowledge/skills in client/server, general networking, IPAM/DNS/DHCP, Internet, and hardware - routers, switches, etc.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Must be available for callback support on a regular basis. This position requires evenings and weekend hours at times for conversions, due to schedules.
Must have own dependable transportation.
Employee does not have direct patient contact.
Must be able to sit up to 80% of each workday.
Must be able to perform fine hand manipulation when using computer keyboard and be able to type 50%+ of the workday.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on occasion.
Must be able to twist, bend, and kneel.
Must have ability to perform work-related travel.
Preferred Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related field preferred.
Certification/License: Cisco Certifications preferred.
Experience: At least 10 years experience installing and supporting sophisticated information systems, preferably in a health care environment utilizing client/server technologies.
