ABOUT THE ROLE
The Associate Director of News and Information is an accomplished communications professional who executes communications strategies with a deep understanding of large complex academic and health care organizations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works to develop communications goals and strategic media relations campaigns.
- Helps prepare for media interviews, develop press conferences, and create materials for media relations and public affairs.
- Works collaboratively with Emory University’s media relations team to identify media outlets, develop contacts, and place news, features, and opinion pieces.
- Develops and implements media relations and/or publications programs and oversees media relations and/or publications for specific colleges and schools.
- Assists in strategic public relations planning and implementation including, media relations, publications and periodicals, crises communication and issues management.
- Develops relationships with journalists and oversees and implements new methods for media relations efforts.
- Edits texts and works with clients and designers to produce publications.
- May supervise staff and production of news and public information materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism or related field, and five years experience in writing, editing or public relations, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience as a media relations professional, writer and editor.
- Demonstrated creative communications and business skills.
- Ability to conceptualize and articulate strategic communications plans with an understanding of the diversity of the internal and external audience.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
