Mid Level Product Security Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level product security engineer job?
Position your experience around ownership, not just execution. Highlight security features or systems you led from design through deployment, any cross-functional collaboration with product or engineering teams, and measurable outcomes like reduced attack surface or faster vulnerability resolution. Tailor your resume to show you can operate with limited oversight, and demonstrate familiarity with threat modeling, secure SDLC, and relevant compliance frameworks.
Which companies hire mid level product security engineers?
Companies hiring mid level product security engineers right now include Harvey, Palo Alto Networks, and 1X, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of large technology firms, financial institutions, and growth-stage companies that need engineers who can own security programs without heavy management oversight.
Are there remote mid level product security engineer jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid arrangements are common at this level. About 50% of mid level product security engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how many security functions translate well to distributed work. Fully on-site roles tend to appear more often in regulated industries like defense, healthcare, and finance where data handling policies restrict remote access.
How do I move up to a mid level product security engineer role?
The path from entry level to mid level is built on deepening technical ownership over time. Focus on moving from executing assigned tasks to leading defined security workstreams, such as owning a vulnerability management program or driving a threat modeling process for a product area. Demonstrating measurable impact, building relationships across engineering and product teams, and developing expertise in one or two security domains, like application security or cloud security, accelerates the transition.
Which industries hire the most mid level product security engineers?
Mid Level product security engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Banking & Financial Services, and Retail, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they ship software products at scale and face regulatory, reputational, and operational pressure to embed security engineers directly into product development teams rather than treat security as a separate audit function.
