Job Title: Underground Utility Project Manager

About the Role: MMI Utility Construction is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead our underground operations; you will act as the vital, go-to liaison between our field crews, our central office, and our customers. We are looking for an adaptable leader who can coordinate operations and ensure our projects are executed safely, on time, and to the client's exact specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Oversight: Manage all phases of underground utility and duct bank projects, from pre-construction planning to final completion.
• Customer Relations: Serve as a point of contact on-site for clients, addressing concerns, providing progress updates, and managing expectations.
• Office-to-Field Liaison: Bridge the communication gap between the central office and field operations, translating project scopes, change orders, and timelines effectively.
• Field Support: Maintain a field presence as needed by the project scope, supporting crews to ensure technical accuracy and safety standards are met.
• Quality & Safety Control: Enforce safety protocols, ensure zero-strike compliance around live utilities, and maintain high standards for precision installation and construction.
• Resource Management: Coordinate equipment logistics, materials, and crew schedules to keep projects moving efficiently.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Background and experience in duct bank, primary power, water distribution, gravity sewer, telecom, and federal projects.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of successfully managing customer interactions and setting clear expectations.
• Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, blueprints, and utility profiles.
• Software Proficiency: Familiarity with construction project management software. We use Contractor Foreman internally (prior experience with it is a plus, but not required to apply). You will also occasionally interface with customer-specific portals, such as Procore, to view or upload documents.
• Familiarity with local Huntsville utility standards and soil/rock conditions is highly preferred.

Mandatory Driving & Safety Requirements: We perform a high volume of government contract work, and our insurance requires strict driver eligibility. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be checked prior to employment. You are considered "Prohibited" and should not apply if you have any of the following on your record from the past 5 years:

• DUI/DWI: One or more convictions within the last 5 years.
• Moving Violations: 4 or more moving violations (including speeding tickets).
• Accidents: 2 or more accidents.
• Combined Record: A combination of 3 moving violations and 1 or more accidents.

Other Requirements:

• Drug Test: Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Reliability: Daily commute to either our Huntsville yard or to the active job site by 6:30 AM.
• Physicality: Ability to lift 80 lbs and work outdoors in all Alabama weather conditions.

Travel: Candidates must be comfortable with extensive travel wherever projects are located.
