PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to directly support the Office of Strategic Initiatives and work closely with the Uranium Mine Reclamation Coordinator in advancing the New Mexico Environment Department's (NMED) strategic initiative to foster environmentally conscientious economic growth as well as protecting human health.
This position works to elevate and amplify the important work of cleaning up legacy uranium contamination from former mining and mill sites across New Mexico by providing technical assistance, including fiscal and programmatic oversight. This work leads the Department's efforts to interrupt the status quo for legacy contamination and advocate effectively for resources necessary to clean up pollution to restore natural resources and enhance communities and cultural sites. This position will support uranium mine reclamation efforts across the state.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on best practices and success of uranium mine reclamation
- Collaborate with state, tribal, and federal partners to ensure success of the program and that deliverables are met
- Resolve complex issues by analyzing data, creating reports, and attending meetings as required
- Create and submit status reports to management for review
- Ensure all financial and purchasing requests are processed in compliance with the NMED and the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) regulations
- Provide administrative support for the Uranium Mine Reclamation program including managing files and records, designing forms, and other functions as required
CUSTOMERS:
- New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment
- Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations
- Internal staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting and one (1) year of directly related job experience in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course certification.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some travel to mine sites and community meetings around the state.
