INTRODUCTION
This job is for the Department of Workforce Solutions Public Works/Labor Relations Division. Public Works enforces and administers both the Public Works Minimum Wage Act and the Public Works Apprenticeship and Training Act.
Interviews will take place within 2 weeks of posting closing.
PURPOSE: The Public Works Compliance Officer/Inspector position purpose is to ensure that public works projects are constructed in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections of public works construction sites to verify compliance with prevailing wage, minimum wage, and other relevant labor laws.
- Observe work activities, interview workers, and gather basic information regarding wages, hours worked, and working conditions.
- Collect and document evidence of compliance or non-compliance, such as time cards, payroll records, and employee interviews.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all inspections conducted.
- Report findings and observations to the relevant Compliance Officer for further investigation.
CUSTOMERS
The job is done for state and local government agencies, contractors, plaintiffs, and the general public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and/or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is mostly performed on Construction sites with exposure to dirt, mud, construction material, and Vehicle.
THIS POSITION INVOLVES INTENSIVE TRAVEL THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO.
