Research Engineer Jobs in Atlanta: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a research engineer job in Atlanta?
Focus your search on the clusters where Atlanta hiring concentrates: Midtown's Tech Square for computing and AI roles, the Emory-CDC corridor for biomedical and public health research, and defense contractors concentrated near Marietta and Dobbins. Candidates with hands-on lab experience, published work, or graduate research tied to Georgia Tech, Emory, or Georgia State carry a measurable edge in this market.
Which companies hire research engineers in Atlanta?
Atlanta research engineer roles are posted by Emory University, The Home Depot, and PwC and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Atlanta's employer mix skews toward university-affiliated research centers, federal contractors, and fast-growing life sciences and semiconductor companies anchored in and around the city.
Are there remote research engineer jobs in Atlanta?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role: computational, data-driven, and software-adjacent research positions are far more remote-friendly than hands-on lab or hardware-focused work. About 22% of research engineer openings tied to Atlanta are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with the strongest remote share in AI, machine learning, and data systems roles.
How can I get a research engineer job in Atlanta with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Atlanta is through a graduate research assistantship or co-op at Georgia Tech or Emory, which both have direct pipelines into local industry. Entry-level candidates can also target research associate and junior engineer roles at Atlanta-area federal contractors, biotech startups in the Midtown corridor, and CDC-affiliated research organizations, where academic project work and internship experience substitute for full professional tenure.
Which industries hire the most research engineers in Atlanta?
Atlanta research engineer roles concentrate in Education, Consulting & Professional Services, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Atlanta's position as a hub for the CDC, major defense contractors, and a dense Georgia Tech-linked tech ecosystem drives consistent hiring across those sectors.
